I’m staring at my list of possible apps, and I’m not sure what to choose. We can have 8 butler-passed apps and there will also be a huge seafood display and crudites station. Our main meal is a multi-course Chinese feast with different rice dishes, noodles, vegetables and all the major proteins (fish, seafood, poultry, red meat, pork, tofu), so there really aren’t a lot of neglected areas to cover with the apps. Mostly, I’m just looking for what people think sounds good!
I’ve marked vegetarian choices with a (v) and vegan choices with a (vg). Items marked (ls) are considered local specialties.
Our choices are:
-Peking duck spring rolls with hoisin sauce (ls)
-Vegetable spring rolls with plum sauce (v)
-Crispy fried tofu wedges with local green onion topping (vg) (ls)
-Sweet and sour Asian meatballs
-Satay chicken skewers
-Skewers of sweet and sour pork with pineapple and green peppers.
-Grilled scallion pancake with chili oil filling (vg) (ls)
-Green bean dumplings (vg) (ls)
-Fried quails eggs on skewers (v)
-Kimchi and peanut dumplings
-Bite-size steak cubes with rose salt
-Hakka-style chicken wings (the Hakka are a Chinese cultural group with a sizable presence in Taiwan) (ls)
-Sweet potato croquettes with mango dressing (v) (ls)
-Fried rice balls stuffed with shredded chicken, flaked salmon or water spinach (have the potential to be vg)
-Boneless ribs with Thai BBQ sauce on an edible wanton spoon
-Roasted veggie skewers (vg)
-Udon soup shooter with wantons
-Fried noodle cakes with vegetable toppings (vg)
-Mini-pizzas (I have no idea why this is on the menu as it doesn’t seem to go with anything on offer – it may be a concession to my Western palate! But hey – maybe they’re good! I guess they could be vegetarian too.)
I always fail miserably at making polls (they never materialize) so if people could just leave as many of their faves as they like in the comments, that would be great!
