Hi, I am not the traditional step-mother, really just the 2nd wife of the husband. I had nothing to do with raising the children nor did they at any time live in the same state as my husband and so my relationship with them is only one of acquaintence really. So, my question is this: the wedding is due soon and the daughter did not include on the invite any info about the dress requirements. It is a late afternoon garden wedding during the day and then off to a restaurant for a meal (no reception as such) and then to a suite for drinks after. It is only a small party of guests but I in no way want to upstage her (though all eyes are always on the bride anyway). The dress I have chosen is JUST above the knee and black and red in color. There is no neckline – it is straight across above the breasts (no cleavage showing) and around the back with small straps. I was going to wear normal pumps and stockings and keep accessories to bare minimum. EVERYONE loves the dress and feels it is fitting but I don’t want any tension on the day so thought I would ask soon to be brides of their opinions. Besides, lets face it, sm’s are the first to be pointed at if they do anything even slightly off centre and I don’t want her to be the recipient of “did you see the fathers wife!” type of thing. By The Way, I am 39 yo so it won’t be mutton as lamb.
