I recently purchased my very own Maggie Sottero dress & I am so excited about it. Maggie was the only designer I was REALLY in love with and I never thought I’d wind up with a dress by her!
Anyway, I’m looking for suggestions on hairstyle and jewelry for this dress. We are hving a vintage themed wedding so I’d like something that kind of sticks with that theme
Here are the dress photos:
BACK OF DRESS (minus the flower strap on the shoulder because I wont be wearing it)
Now, would a necklace be “too much” with the beading on the top of the dress? I haven’t really looked into this too much yet as I just ordered the dress last week. But here are some I just found on google images.
And if I should go with a necklace, should it be rhinestone? Or pearl? Or what? Would rhinestone be too much with the beading on the dress bodice? Ah. OVERLOAD! Lol
And if I forego a necklace, do I just stick with a nice pair of rhinestone drop earrings? Or pearls?
Now, hairstyles. Right now my hair is just past my shoulders and very straight and thin and soft. It’s almost impossible to do anything with other than straighten it. Thing is, I really have my heart set on a 1940-ish hairdo! Which do you think would look best with the dress? Im not opposed to growing my hair out or chopping it off for the right hairstyle 😉
Also, if it helps, I’m thinking of going with a birdcage veil with a pretty rhinestone design of sorts.
any other suggestions are GREATLY appeciated! I’m so indecisive!

no necklace. i think it ruins strapless dresses sometimes, especially ones with such incredible detail at the top like yours. show off that collar bone and detail of the dress… NO NECKLACE! i would get a killer pair of drop rhinestone earrings though. and no pearls. i think rhinestones are totally glamorous and will go a lot better with your 1940’s hollywood hairstyle.

I would say don’t do a necklace…the top of your dress is already ornate and beautiful. I would go with rhinestone earrings and possibly a bracelet as well. I would say keep it simple, your dress is very detailed as it is and you don’t want to take away from it.

don’t do a necklace. I like the second to last hairstyle. I’m wearing that same dress and I’mm thinking I should wear my hair up and back, almost lke the model in the pic from the maggie sottero page

Do you guys think a bracelet like this would work or should I just stick with somethign blingy/rhinestoney?

I think you should just go with rhinestone. The pearls bring in a new element and then it looks like there’s too much going on. If you had just rhinestone then the top of the dress will show off more.

Yeah I would do no necklace, and a simpler bracelet. I wouldn’t do anything with color honestly bc it would seem to take away from all the detail in the dress.
Favorite hair is the 2nd to last one as well. It could just be that it’s a more modern pic, but I like it!

I love your dress. I was like you, I didn’t think I would end up with a Maggie dress either. I would do a necklace because of all the beading at the top of the dress. I do suggest earrings. Something like this.
I also love the second to last hair style. Here’s another you might like.

Hello there! Your dress is absolutely gorgeous!
I am having the same dilemma picking out jewelry too! I am such a necklace person, and I feel like my neck would be naked without one! But with a beaded bodice, I’m limited on what I feel “goes”.
My best suggestion- get photos of yourself in your dress from the top of the dress up. This should be a nice, clear close up photo. Maybe even pull your hair back so your ears show (in case you plan to wear earrings).
Then you can take it with you when you go to look at jewelry, or if you have photoshop (which I do) you can cut/paste the pictures of the jewlery onto yourself and sort of get an idea of how it will work.
I like to crop the jewelry picture and then size it onto myself, and then set it to where it’s a bit opaque so I can see through it, and just get an idea of the overall look. It has really helped!

OMG…the hairstyles are exactly what I am going for!!! Love the waves. You have most of my inspiration photos too. 🙂 As far as a necklace, i’m wearing a big ass statement necklace (although I do not have beading at the top of my dress). I say try some on with the dress. Buck tradition and do something unexpected.

I have to agree with PP.. no necklace. There is enough going on with the dress. I would do earrings and bracelet.

your gown is stunning and full of detail, necklace would be too much
also agree with drop earrings. if you want something sparkly in your hair, maybe go with stud earrings as it could be a little too much bling.

I agree with drop earrings and maybe some hair detail. A dainty bracelet might round things out as well. I think a necklace might be too much. All eyes need to be on you in that beautiful dress!
just curious about the pearl/rhinestone brooch choker that you came across in the second picture. Do you know if that is sold somewhere? I would LOVE that for my maid of honor! <3

Definitely no necklace because the dress is detailed enough. I’d suggest drop down pearl earrings and hair in a Charlize Theron type of style – soft curls and pined back on at least one side so you can see the earrings.

Google the following companies who have some lovely vintage style accessories:
Tiger Lilly Jewellery
(I would post the links but for some reason my posts never get shown if I post links!)
My dress is a lace Maggie and i’ve gone with vintage accessories from these sites and I love them!!!!
