I’m attending an afternoon/evening tea ceremony and reception in the spring and need some guidance with appropriate attire. I never wear dresses, but thought I’d pick up something tasteful and modest for this event and a retirement party I’ll be attending around the same time. Here are two potentials I have selected, please let me know if they are appropriate for a semi-formal evening winter/spring wedding:

I think either would be fine, but I like the purple one a lot better!

- Wedding: October 2014 - Disney
I like the second better. I feel like its neckline and hem line (looks abou 1/2 inch shorter) are a little more fun and youthful. Plus the second one is fitted which will work much better on any shape than one that isnt fitted. The top one the detail is nice but it has no shape, its awkward. It hangs like a paper bag :/

The second for sure would be appropriate.
Even though it’s a semi-formal event the top one still looks too casual/sporty

The first one is a bit too casual for a semi-formal wedding in my opinion. The second dress I adore and would be so flattering!

I love the second dress, and I really like the color! Maybe you can pair the dress up with a thin black belt, to highlight the waistline 🙂 Or perhaps a colorful accessory, like a bracelet? No necklace needed because of the dress neckline

If I HAD to choose, I would say the dark purple… But for a luncheon in the spring? I feel like it’s awfully dark…

I love the second dress. You could always brighten it up with the jewelry if you’d like. 🙂

- Wedding: August 2013 - The Liberty House
The first is a little casual, but I like the second

I really like the purple dress! It seems a little more formal

- Wedding: March 2012 - Pelican Grand Beach Resort
The first one looks too sporty and casual for a wedding. The second one looks great.

The first dress looks like something I’d wear to the gym. (HA!! Me going to the gym…) Second one is uber-cute.

I would wear the first one to work, and if it can be considered work attire, it’s not wedding appropriate. It is way too plain. it almost looks like a work out dress with those stripes!
