I think you’ve done great! I feel like a bad person…if I can’t make a wedding, I don’t send a gift :-(. If you’re looking at this from an economics standpoint, they aren’t spending any money on you for you to attend their evening. I think it’s a very nice gesture!

We’ve gotten a few gifts from people who aren’t able to attend our wedding. I thought it was an incredibly nice gesture. I think you’ve done well, and I may need to re-think my own gift giving etiquette :-).

We’re not best friends but we meet every couple of months for dinner and I really like her”  So I disagree with the pp that if you can’t go to a wedding you’re not obligated to give a gift… I mean you’re not obligated but you’re friends with the girl so why wouldn’t you want to??

Anyways with that said I think whatever you can give is fine. As long as she sees that you really are trying to celebrate with her that she is starting a new chapter in her life. I think what you have is fine. Maybe add an extra special note saying how much you really wish you could make it.
