Hi my lovely Bees
I am trying to figure out when the approriate time would be to schedule my first fitting? My wedding is April 27th. I am still in the process of losing weight. 10 pounds down. 12 more to go. I don’t want to go too early and end up paying additional fees to have the gown taken in more as the weight comes off. But I don’t want to wait until the last minute either.

We are date twins! My first fitting is march 15. My seamstress said you should start them 6 weeks before the wedding. And like you I’ve lost some weight and it has to be taken in. I don’t want to push it any closer to the wedding date.

@MrsRedPumps: I probably went too early because i’m planning ours from out of state. I had my first fitting already when i was home for the holidays. My seamstress said that some brides do wait till the last minute because of weight loss… and she said its mostly annoying because they never actually try to lose the weight so they basically put the seamstresses under pressure for no reason.. but you sound like you are doing good girl! My wedding is April 20, and i would think one in february one in march and one in April would be good, or maybe you can extend it to march and two in april. Give them a call and see when the first fitting should be. When i called to get my first fitting they wanted to bring me in in feb. If that helps…oh and also if your dress doesnt require a lot of beading or lace or intricate work, i should assume they can whip it together in no time. They know the time they need. Keep up the excellent work with your weight loss! You go girl!

I would ask your seamstress, many have their own timelines they go by. My first fitting is Feb 4th.

Should I be worried that my dress hasn’t even came in yet??? The store thought it would be in on Friday but they never called so it must not have 🙁
Anyone else getting married in April not have their dress yet?

i’m in a similar boat, doing well with working out and losing weight, realistically am only planning on 5 more pounds.
I was thinking 2 fittings – one in mid March and one in early-mid April, my wedding is April 20.
How many fittings are the norm, 2 or 3?
@almostallan: My dress isn’t in yet either! The salon told me “any day now.”

Mine is Feb. 23 so 40 more days, time to buckle down so I can zip that sucker up!

My dress is already done. I had a local seamstress do mine though, and since she also does prom dresses, it was safer to get my dress altered early.

I’ve already started my fittings but I also live several hours away from my dress, so I have to schedule fittings pretty far in advance. I started at the end of November (general fitting, got a longline bra), one after Christmas (bodice was taken in, hemmed), one will be in mid-March (more taking in), and the final check-up a week before the wedding.

Yay. I checked with my seamstress and she said that 6 weeks is an adequate amount of time. Whew! I can continue to work on my weight loss.

Just got the call to say my dress has finally arrived, panic over! Going this weekend to inspect it and I will arrange the first fitting too. So exciting!

@almostallan: That’s AWESOME!!!! So happy for you 🙂

Wedding is April 20, first fitting is March 27. They said it’ll take about a week, then I’ll come try it again to make sure it fits perfect.. then it’s done. So I should have mine done about 3 weeks before the wedding.

I bought my dress second hand and have booked my first fitting for this Saturday (19th Jan). I’m not sure whether I want to change it from an A-line to be more fitted, so I’m going in early to have a play around with the seamtress and try different things out. I’m a bit worried about it being so early because I need to lose another 10lb (28lbs lost already), but when I rang her she said it was better to do it early and make 2 appointments (1 now and 1 much closer to the time).

@almostallan: We’re date twins! My dress isn’t in yet, although the shop told me to expect it late January/early February.
