@imsandradee:  I have a friend that used to do the breakups each year, and it got really lame. I guessed it each time.

I would never do that because I’d feel like it was a jinx lol. He ended up breaking up with that chick for real.

My Future Brother-In-Law and his girlfriend of 3 years both changed their relationships to single today and I was so heartbroken for them. Yeah, it took me 2 hours to remember what day it was.

I did this in college (sophomore year, I think?) when Fiance and I had been dating for about a year. Changed our status to “engaged.” I was surprised how many people fell for it! I guess it might have been believable, though. Five years later it changed for real 🙂

I got engaged last year on March 31st. It was fun convincing everyone that it was for real!!

I had two friends who actually got engaged today, and all of their feed is full of “For real?!”

They were both in long term relationships, so it’s not like they were out of the blue, which is why people were confused

there was also the obligatory fake break ups, pregnancies (which arent funny, at leat i dont think so) and two ‘elopments”

@StephieBee:  I agree. I think it’s really lame to mess with people like that.

@imsandradee:  Umm… sort of. My grandparents got engaged on April Fools Day. During Easter mass. For real. My grandmother still bitches about how inappropriate of a time it was. My grandfather claimed my grandmother couldn’t take a joke and he got stuck with her.

I had some friends announce their engagement after a few months of dating. People either called bullshit or congratulated them, but they didn’t respond for about a week. It turns out that they got so excited about being fake engaged that they got engaged for real. and no one believed them! We were convinced it was a stunt that they were continuing. They were engage for two more years and finally broke up.

Doing these things as a prank … seems really juvenile to me.

I mean, I don’t see where a relationship is anything worth making a joke about (particularly if one is leading their friends on with an Engagement or a Break Up).  Personally, I take my relationship to be so much more serious than something that lame.

That said,

I have no problem with folks who CHOOSE to marry on April Fool’s Day… having a bit of fun with the date itself is ok in my book.  Some people like to have an Anniversary Date that is easy to remember, or a wee laugh about… A Birthday, Their Dating Anniversary, a Numeric Reference like 12-12-12, Christmas Eve, New Years Eve, Ground Hog Day, Sadie Hawkins Day / Leap Year, April Fools… I’m good with all of em
