I was a little surprised when someone on facebook made an April Fool’s Joke implying they were pregnant. She took a picture of herself with her stomach thrown out and a comment about how happy the 2 of them are.
I’m not super close to her, and all the comments after it was known it was a joke were positive. I’m not TTC or anything, but I didn’t think it was funny. Do I need to lighten up or was this in really bad taste?

Eh, like 30 people on FB announced their “pregnancies” this year. I didn’t think it was particularly funny, but I’m not offended either.

No not funny at all. My friend wanted to do the same thing and her sister and I talked her out of it. Especially if you are married or in a stable relationship people would be happy for you and all excited so I really don’t get the joke.

I guess it depends on the source but I wouldn’t have found it funny at all. I generally don’t find humor in faking major life moments so I’m with you, I think its bad taste.

@MissBoPeep: Maybe she’s had friends do it too then. This is the first time I’ve seen it though.
I didn’t find it super offensive, just more a feeling of I would never do it, and could imagine some people being upset if I did. I was surprised by the positive response she recieved.

I don’t find it offensive but I don’t find it funny at all and think it could be insensitive to those who want children but can’t or are having fertility trouble. Your friend probably has no experience with difficulty conceiving or she wouldn’t venture a joke like that. Now that we’re on onto Cycle #12 TTC, I can’t help but think what an amazing miracle a baby is and how a treasure like that shouldn’t be made fun of.

@MrsFarmer: Completely agree. I think that it’s a “joke” that’s in poor taste and can be pretty insensitive.

@AB Bride: Yeah, there were a ton of “pregnancies” “engagements” and “break ups” on mine.

So weird. I didn’t see anything like that on my Facebook. Or maybe I just didn’t pay attention.

@UpstateCait: “I generally don’t find humor in faking major life moments so I’m with you, I think its bad taste.”
This is how I feel about it. It’s not something to be taken lightly and shouldn’t be joked about…ever.

Yeah, I had a couple on my feed too… Normally I feel that they’re insensitive, but one was actually cute from a mom friend of mine who just had a little boy a few months ago. From afar, it looked like the standard digital preg test, but when you clicked on it and it enlarged, the window said “just kidding”.
ETA: I think since the whole picture was a joke from the get-go, I viewed it as cute instead of insensitive. If she came out like the others and said “I’m preggo again!” and then later on said it was a joke, THEN it was have been more of a problem for me!

i DIDN’T GET ANY OF THESE EITHER, BUT I THINK IT WAS JUST A JOKE.

I wouldn’t put it on FB but I do think it was just a fun joke.
After looking at some people’s very early baby bumps on here, I have joked to Darling Husband that non-pregnant me has more of a “baby bump” than the legit one’s people have posted.
I could totally fake a pregnancy bump if I wanted but that doesn’t take anything away from people’s real pregnancies.

I don’t think it’s offensive, just lame.

The only thing I can think of that would be upsetting would be if a couple who were really trying to have kids and having a hard time were to see it. It’s like a smack in the face, except worse, because it’s all a big ‘joke’.
I saw about 30 break-ups..which I also don’t understand, because I would never ‘pretend’ to break up with my wonderful SO, no matter the reason.
