You are absolutely not being unreasonable. I seriously want to live in a townhouse the next place I live so that I can at least not have people above us. It’s a really big deal to me too. Hang in there!

If you sign a 1 year lease, you’re typically responsible for rent for that entire year should they not be able to re-rent it. At least, that’s the case with most places. I hope they let you off the lease. You should talk to the landlord, show him pics & address things that aren’t up to code & tell him about the noise, yelling, etc.

I went in on a 1 year lease with 1 friend & his friend awhile back… it was horrible (not the place, but my room didn’t lock & one of em let homeless guys sleep in the living room. Creepy). Somehow I got off the lease & wasn’t charged anything. The other 2 people still lived there thou.

You could always ask to be moved to another apartment of equal value.  Then you get rid of some of the issues (mainly the neighbors) and don’t have to break your lease.  Its worth a shot!
