Holy crap that’s gorgeous!!!
Holy crap that’s gorgeous!!!
Beautiful!! I love it!!!
OMG its GORGEOUS!! And i love that you take a lot of pics and share the whole experience, it’s super helpful to all of us!
moonday : I think we went back and forth on the CAD for about 2 weeks because I couldn’y decides on how to do the sides or if I wanted tri-wire like the antique version. I decided to simplify for costs and to make a ring that I know would be interchangeable with my engraved and pave bands. Once the CAD was done, I think it was about 3 weeks to my door.
Ohhhh I WANT IT!!!!
angelwaye : OH MYYYYYYYY!!!!! That ring is STUNNING! You seriously making me rethink with an assher cut! Haha Woah! Im still on a hunt for a lab peachy pink Sapphire.. but I’m also going to do a bezel halo plain shank though.. and have David Klass create it or I’ll contact sam to see his pricing. What are the size of the melees on the halo?
cicix3 : I mentioned this on the Starsgem thread but this peach sapphire is really pretty. It may be more than you are willing to spend but sapphires in this cut are more rare.
I know because you are on reddit too that the guys in r/shinypreciousgems will cut you anything real ot lab that you might want. You can get in touch with u/earlysong and she can help you out with getting pricing. This aqua was a real steal for the price with a natural stone.
Sam did the halo in 1.3 mm diamonds. I think once you get smaller than that, you can loose a lot of the sparkle.
angelwaye : thank you! I actually just checked and it’s the color I’m after! But I really want a cushion and 8mm in size. But that color is amazing!
Im going to message earlysong and double check again.
I really admire your bezel so so much! I’m going after a similar look but with no milgrain. I also want to do 1.5mm melees.
What made you choose an assher cut? It’s such a lovely cut! I paid no attention to that cut until now! Haha seriously this is the best colored stone bezel halo ring I’ve ever seen!
cicix3 : definitely send a note to earlysong. She is so sweet. She helped organize all the gemcutters She does all this in her own spare time just to help support the local lapidary’s which is such a dying trade it seems. These guys & girls really do it for the love and joy and not for the money. I really found it to be a lot of fun to go ‘rough’ shopping and pick the color and see it go through the entire process. I guess I find it all fascinating. There are literally so many lab sapphires, spinels or even morganites that can get you the color you want. I would definitely try to go for precision cutting because it does make all the difference.
I had a friend check out the gem show in Hong Kong back in May because she lives there and she took a look at the SG table with a Loupe. She really wanted to love the Asscher cut but she said she could see that the points were not precise which was throwing off the steps and they had a lot of light leakage. Once you put something in a bezel, it is hard to change your mind so I really wanted precision cutting w/o worrying about having to change it down the road. I had an aqua that someone stole like 20 years ago and I know they are really nice looking in Asscher cuts in Deco settings. I didn’t go for the more expensive Santa Ana blue because I actually like them a bit lighter. Goes good with jeans and a sweater. I think the cut is so cool because it looks like pools of water. I could just stare at the thing all day.
I know the Chinese can still make a decent ring but there is something about having a very high quality setting. Sam is really a genius and does all the same work as David for around the same prices. They are only 2 blocks from each other in LA. I am sure he would even price match. This thing weighs 11 grams so very heavy duty and made with the strongest platinum combo so it holds up like a tank. This is sturdy but I kept the shank at 2.5 so it is not overly thick. I really wouldn’t change anything about it. Very comfortable and you have a much smaller finger so you could get away with a smaller stone.
I think a morganite could still work for you because if it is not a huge stone and in a bezel it will not chip any of the corners. You don’t have to do the miligrain edge. There is a big difference between some of the higher quality and lower quality morganites too. I have an emerald cut set that Sam picked through multiple parcels to find me the perfect one. I even made a cushion one as a gift for my BFF. I would consider it since you are looking at bezel’s. If not, then there are multiple lab options and earlysong just added 2 more gemcutters recently that should be able to quote you for something in the color you want. Hopefully you will finally find something you love.
angelwaye : thanks! Yeah I did think about morganite but overall I just really want a lab sapphire. I just spoke with earlysong and she said they recently just got a new pinkish-orange lab sapphire but I won’t be able to see it for a few weeks.. I’m really hoping it’s the color 🙂
You really got me second guessing if I should have it in an assher cut hahaha!! I just love yours so much!
And forsure! SG Does a good job but this type of setting I I will have either DK or Sam. Sam seems so nice and he messages back fairly quickly! Thanks to you for recommending him!!
