I used to be the type of girl with mainly guy friends and one or two close girlfriends, but a lot of us have drifted apart as we’ve gotten older and moved. It seems like guys are much less committed to maintaining friendships when it’s no longer convenient (distance between the people, different schedules, etc.) at least in my experience. I still have more guy friends than girls though.

I can’t seem to keep girl friends… but have no problem making friends with guys. I don’t know why.

I’ve always traditionally had more guy friends, and that’s always put me in a bad spot known as “the friend zone,” grr. I’ve always wanted to be friendly with more women, but I can’t gear myself up to get excited over make up and fashion like most of the women I grew up with did. I’ve always felt awkward around women.

Now that I’m married, I do kind of long for more girl friends, a lot because I know I’m in an odd spot if I were to “make friends” with men I didn’t know prior to marriage. Their women might get suspicious, I might get viewed as horning in on their dude, etc. which I don’t have time for. Maybe if I have children, I can flock to mommy’s club or something, but for now I’m at a loss on how to meet more buddies.

i have about two dozen guy friends (all scuba diving buddies) and only one close female friend – if it wasnt for coworkers i would go days without speaking to a woman

I voted that I have mostly guy friends but wish I had more girl friends. I find it much easier to be friends with guys. I’m bisexual and have lost a few straight girl friends when they found out (yeah, suddenly I’m going to start hitting on you… not) and it’s just too much effort to have to hide who I am to make someone else feel comfortable. That is not friendship.

I make friends with guys really easily, tons of guy friends. I wished it were the same way with girls too, but alas…

When I was younger (high school & college) I had mostly guy friends and a few close knit girl friends.  As I’ve gotten older, and well, moved past the crazy bar hopping days, I seem to have a newfound appreciation for my girlfriends.  I have maybe 4 or 5 guy friends now, and the rest of my male pals are actually FI’s friends.  I need a girl’s night out every now and then.  I have to have that comeraderie that I didn’t used to crave.  I’m still kind of “one of the guys” when we all hang out in a mixed group, but I definitely appreciate my gal pals more than ever!

@Regina Phalange:  I’m irritated on your behalf. My bestie (a guy, wouldn’t you know?) is gay, and I HATE how my other male friends, or casual men we meet out and about react when they’ve discovered he’s gay. Just because his sexual preference is honed to men, it does not mean that EVERY SINGLE MAN is alluring or potential “meat” to him. Yeesh! I think that “he’s barking up the wrong tree!” attitude is actually objectifying him, and degrading to him since they no longer see him as just a regular dude, but now a sexual “threat” to their manhood.

I do not have more guy friends than girl friends, however I do feel at times that I can get along straight from the get go with guys better than girls. With girls it usually does take me some time to get comfortable and “make friends.” I also have heard it many times that it’s common that girls will oftentimes get along better with guys than girls.

I have more guy friends, and I prefer talking to and hanging out with guys, but I do have 3 pretty good girl friends, but they’re not seperate or anything, I hang out with them all together (my friends are just seperated into 2 groups by region- I live in 2 cities)
