I decided to just use a “blinged” letter of my new last name.  Simple but elegant.

@beeswax:  We splurged on a custom topper.  If you need the wiggle room in the budget, no they’re really not necessary.  But I don’t think a lot of people go without, just choose something cheaper like PP mentions.

I don’t think they are at all necessary, in fact some are out right cheesy. I had a pine cone theme so I just put a cluster of 3 pinecones on top of my cake. But you can def do without one – I don’t think anyone would notice.

We’re having a fairly plain buttercream cake, decorated with sugar flowers in our wedding colors.  No need for a topper there.

I had one but not because I thought it was necessary. Nothing in a wedding is necessary other than the bride, groom and officiant. Don’t have one if you don’t want to.

Definitely not necessary.  Always think cakes look better without a topper.

Most wedding cakes tend to have flowers on top of them now rather than some ornament.

Not necessary at all. We didn’t have one and it certainly didn’t look like it was missing anything. I’ll upload a picture when I get home form work in a few hours.

@CatyLady:  Thanks!  And better yet… I saved money by spray paiting it silver and adding the rhinestones myself.  Wink

Instead of a cake topper we had an edible sugar flower with some dramatic lines on top.

@beeswax:  Cake topper is definitely the last budget item for me. I wouldn’t do it unless I had extra money after getting everything I wanted perfect.
