I think it’s up to you and your shower host/hostess.  I’ve been to ones where just the mom came, and I’ve been to co-ed ones.

I’ve been to one where the dad was there, and it was super awkward. He sat in the corner and like lurked because there were no other men there.

I had my baby shower after our daughter was born. It was so much fun. All guys and girls came for a BBQ and drinks.

Depends. We just hosted a baby shower for friends that was coed. The guys bbqed and played cornhole, and the ladies hung out and decorated onesies and that kind of thing. In my experience, the dads are pysched about the baby too, and we all love our men’s company. So I vote coed, if you’re having a somewhat casual affair.

In my family baby showers are female events, similar to a bridal shower. Finger foods, usually occurs earlier in the day in the private section of a restaurant or someone’s living room. In my FI’s hispanic family, they are a much larger event where *everyone* attends. The last one I went to was at night and had a DJ, a bartender, a buffet of home made food, and a wicker chair that is traditionally decorated pink or blue like a throne for the mother-to-be. It seems to me like I would get annoyed being very pregnant and surrounded by drunks and loud music late at night but they take part graciously.
