my budget has been getting out of control. i am having a destination wedding in Jamaica and have long since decided i wanted to get leather luggage tags to use as table card placements AND the guests would keep tehm as the wedding favor.
then i got to work on my welcome bags and i kept finding these cute things to put in. here is what is in my welcome bags:
Water bottles, Best of Bob Marley handmade cds, Jamaica postcards, Printed itinerary, Brochures, Travel size bottle of sunscreen & ibuprofen, Snacks, Chapstick, Gum, deck of cards (personalized with Palm trees and “Montego Bay, Jamaica”).
AND i decided that at the wedding ceremony on the beach I will give out sandalwood fans.
do i need favors on top of this? i really want to, but i haven’t found any nice luggage tags for cheap, but i have found cute little sea shells with slits in them to use as place cards that i want to use.
so is it okay to skip having favors being handed out at the actual dinner? or is it still better to give something since the welcome bags are separate and just a gift for travelling?

Favors are never necessary, but they are especially unneccessary when you have welcome bags!

I say nay to favors!!! You have a lot already. I think the bags are perfectly fine!!

I don’t think favors are necessary in general. However, if you really want to do them…go for it. Maybe you’ll come across some cheap ideas!

ya, thing is i am at the point of needing to cut whatever i can to save money. i already ordered the stuff i mentioned. at this point, unless i find luggage tags for $1, i don’t think i can afford them. plus i don’t like to get things that look “cheap”. i would prefer to give nice leather luggage tags or none at all. but not crappy ones that people will just throw out! but the cheapest “nice” ones i have found are around $5 – $6.
so glad to hear so far that i probably don’t need anything else!

@dynamic_duo: Definitely understandable. I wouldn’t worry about not having favors!

Usually I’d say welcome bags can’t replace favors b/c not everyone stays in a hotel and gets one, but if it’s destination then everybody should get one and that’s fine. Especially b/c you’re giving out fans too, so it’s not like they’re not getting a gift at the wedding.

Nope. I don’t think favors are necessary.

I agree with everyone else, favors aren’t needed with any wedding.
Especially weddings with fabulous welcome bags!!!
I wouldn’t worry about it.

The things that you already have sound perfect. I do not think people are also going to expect favors. A welcome bag sounds like a favor to me! Sounds like you want favors but also need to keep in line with a budget so I say ditch the favors.

Favors are never necessary. I did not have favors or welcome bags, and did not miss them.

@doingathing: oh i am definitely doing welcome bags! i am a little too excited about them, lol. plus i think i should since everyone is travelling all the way to Jamaica, i want them to feel welcome and show them how much i appreciate it that they came!
but you have all convinced me not to worry about the favors 🙂

Don’t do favors! Seriously, this is one of the things I wish I’d skipped. SO not important to the overall reception.

I’m so glad I came across this post bc I was torn about whether or not to do favors and now I am completely sure that I won’t do them and save that money:) I’ve been to several weddings iwth favors and can’t even remember what i did with them.
