I wore heels to my initial interview with the police department and I was rejected hahaha!!!! I’ve gotten in since then (that was 7 years ago) and I hardly ever wear heels (unless I’m in Vegas). I’ve never had an issue with wearing flats. I’m 5’10 so it is almost expected out of me to wear something flat. At work now I wear daily suits and business casual attire and I always wear flats.

I think they’re fine. I wear flats every day at work because I fell down a flight of stairs and messed up my ankle so I can’t wear heels anymore. Your mom is from a different time when people actually got very dressed up for work. In today’s corporate world business casual is the norm. The fact that you’re wearing a suit will already be impressive to most employers.

bumblethebee: I’ve never worn heels to a job interview. that said, I’ve interviewed for jobs with kids mostly, and only one secretarial position (a physical therapy clinic). I got the position.
I’ve always wondered if heels come off as high mainenence in a casual or semi casual work environment, especially if I was unlikely to wear heels on the job.
I think they’re very classy and conservative and I’d hire you!

My mother has actually always told me to wear heels to interviews even though I do not wear heels generally and can barely walk in them. I personally think it’s probably worse to be taking teeny tiny steps just to be able to walk but what do I know?
I don’t really know how much interviewers truly care, tbh, as long as the shoes look sedate and professional which yours do.

I think you’re a hundred percent fine. I work in a VERY competitive professional field, and I always wear flats.

I have conducted many interviews, and I think those shoes are just fine. Unless you were wearing sneakers with a suit or somethng weird, I wouldn’t sweat it too much. If you’re comfortable, you’ll be more confident, and be able to shine more.

bumblethebee: I work in the legal department of a corporation and have conducted lots of interviews in my time. Honestly, as long as you aren’t wearing fuzzy bunny slippers, I probably won’t even notice your shoes! Same with your e-ring, pantyhose, etc.

I never wear heels because I’m a klutz plus I have had surgery on a broken ankle, so any job that expected me to wear heels or risk looking unprofessional is a job they can keep! Wear your pretty flats with confidence, and best wishes on your interview 🙂

I wear flats every single day. This isn’t Mad Men, you can wear flats. Those are dressy enough.
