Are hair and makeup trials really necessary?

If you weren’t happy with the end result, the best thing to do is go back and ask a do-over. Even if you have to pay for it. Hopefully you took photos and notes about what you didn’t like. Be specific and don’t worry about hurting feelings – you want to look the right way on the day of, and if that means saying, “the eyeliner was too heavy. Can you try something different?” then so be it.

That’s understandable. If you do go with the stylist, then make sure you are prepared to be specific and demanding on the day of, and have extra time so that your stylist can redo anything you’re not happy with. One of my friends wasn’t happy with her trial and didn’t correct it and she hated what happened with her hair on her wedding day. It’s unfortunate that she spent thousands of dollars on a photographer and doesn’t even want to look at the photos because she hates how she looked.

I didn’t have a hair trial as I used my hairdresser and discussed what I wanted with her before & trusted her on it but I went ahead and had a make up trial a month before our wedding and am i ever glad I did! The trial was at a reputable salon so I was certain it would be fine. The make up artist’s hands reaked of cigarettes, she taped my eyelid to apply eyeliner and gave me the biggest and longest cat eye – i essentially looked like a cheap prostitute, she applied one eyeshadow colour all over – brown, the foundation she used was very cakey and set in my pores, so did the blush, like nothing was blended or seamless it just looked so cheap…she didn’t even bother curling my eyelashes. I had to be out for the day after that and it was so bad that I had to go in the bathroom to rub it off. I’ve never seen my face look that unflattering.

After all of that, I decided to look up YouTube videos, go to Sephora and do my own make up.

My first makeup trial the girl was highly recommended and I HATED it. Awful. Did not even bother trying to have her redo it.

Second trial with a different girl I was allergic to the makeup and ended up in urgent care getting a steroid shot to keep my eyes from swelling shut…

I wish I would have just done my own personally.

My makeup ended up being fine I guess, but she did a shit job at covering my under eye circles (should have done it myself) so that’s like all I see in the photos. My hair was just okay and was not the same as the trial.

If you’re comfortable doing it yourself I would go for it.
