@songbird711:

They have a chart you can print online that shows how large the actual stone is.

Moissanites aren’t measured by carat, they are measured by mm.

carat is weight, so diff stones are heavier. better to go mmxmm

I’m not a Moissy expert by any means but I think they list it so it’s the diamond equivalent weight. I don’t know… thought I read that somewhere and I think the 2nd link states that, too.

Really, you won’t be able to get far without having dimensions…. and since a 1 ct. cushion faces up smaller than a 1 ct. round, you’ll need to plan accordingly. Even within the same cuts, the stone could be cut deeper, giving it a higher weight but the look of a smaller diamond. In my very limited knowledge of Moissy, I don’t think you have to worry about that since I’m fairly certain they are cut by the same company (ie, higher consistency standards).

It is compared by mm , not carat weight – I believe Moissys appear bigger because of their cut. Moissys generally have a large table than standard diamond cuts which gives them a larger appearance

The diameter in millimeters is listed when you order your stone, so go by that measurement more than carat weight.

So your stones will either be 5.5 mm wide (.85 carat) or 6 mm (1.1 carat).  a 6mm cushion is about the same size as a .75 carat round brilliant.  That’s a very nice size.  The 5.5 might be about the equivalent of a .55 or .6 carat round brilliant?

  1. carat is a weight measurement
  2. diamonds are more “dense” than moissanites

which means that 1 carat diamond will be smaller than 1 ct moissanite, if the cut is the same – e.g. round brilliant cut.

I just posted this somewhere else but may as well post it here:

When you see a carat weight given to a moissanite, it’s nearly always the carat weight associated with that size diamond.  So a 7mmx7mm cushion moissanite is called 1.8 carats but really, it’s just referring to a 1.8 carat diamond, which is usually around 7mmx7mm.
