I was at a mall jewelry store getting my ring cleaned when the saleswoman put my ring under a microscope and let me take a look at the symmetry. I thought this was pretty sweet, since my fi bought my ring offline I never had a chance to go through a process like this. I noticed that it was extremely symmetrical with no inclusions, and I didn’t mention that it was moissanite. The woman told me my ring was cut strangely and had a lot of contrast or darker shadows.
So my question is, does anyone know if round brilliant moissanites are cut differently than round diamonds? She seemed to think my stone was “nice” but not very bright. I got my moissy in Dec 2009, and I’m wondering if the cuts have changed since then. Getting my stone enhanced was also not an option back then. I’ve seen enhanced moissys since and really wish I had one. Anyway, I digress. I still adore my ring, but her comments got me curious.
