White gold is yellow gold mixed with other alloys to make it appear white. It always has a yellow tinge in its natural state. To get around that they dip/plate white gold in rhodium to give it a more white appearance. Most white gold sold today has been rhodium plated. If you wish to keep the white gold looking white you take it to the jeweller to get it replated in rhodium. It costs around $50 to get it redipoed in rhodium. You can also leave it if you prefer the natural yellow tinge of white gold.
if you dont like the upkeep of having to replate white gold in rhodium and prefer white metal, platinum may be a better but much expensive option or you can go for palladium. Neither require regular replating. I think Pompeii3 sell a 6mm palladium ring for $450.
Hope that explains what rhodium plating is. 🙂
