I dated a John in high school and it got abusive and ended badly. Every time I hear the name I think of that relationship. So, of course John would happen to be a family name in my BF’s family.  I used to be dead set against using names of exes for our children, but it means a lot to BF so we picked a good middle name that could make John into a double name. I actually really like the name! Good thing we’re not having kids for like 8 more years so I have time to separate my future child with my ex.

I also have a million girls names I LOVE. Almost every single one I brought up was the name of a girl BF used to be best friends with/have a crush on/date. I had to explain to him why I didn’t want to hear about every. single. girl he had ever known…

I am someone who wouldn’t be able to name any of my children after someone I knew, luckily from a small town we don’t a variety of names. I literally had about 3/4 of the guys in my classes throughout school by the name “Brendan/Brandon”, “Kyle”, and “Jamie” and the rest were just random generic names. The girls were more random but no matter where I go there is always at least 2-3 other Jessica’s involved which annoys me.

@IAmTheShadow:  I personally have picked the name “Claire” for our first daughter because I love it, we had played with the name “Clara” but there was just something about it that annoyed me, like that last “A” is really unecessary!

I’m fairly convinced that all Michaels, Kyles, Shannons, and Megans are complete TROUBLE and are off my name list. And don’t try and deny it you Shannons and Megans! You know you’re trouble…

@Daizy914:  you will get over it very fast once you associate the name with your niece instead of your mortal enemy.

Any of the “cutesy” oddly/badly-spelled names that everyone and their mom seems to be naming their kids these days. And names that are super common, like Emma & Isabelle. Lovely names, but over-used these days.

When we found out we were having a girl I thought OH NO purely because EVERY name anyone suggested reminded me of some bitch/slut/annoying cow from high school.

We settled on Lily…and then our neighbours got a little terrier dog called Lily and ALL we heard for 2 weeks before baby was born was “Lily, stop shitting on the carpet!” “Lily you F$^$ing dog stop pissing on the sofa!” etc. So, no Lily.

@DuckEBee:  THIS ALSO!
I know people I went to school with who have kids named “Lilleey Scarrlett” and “Reeagaan” WHY do you need so many letters?! Insanely annoying.

@Snowden:  I feel that way about the name Emmett. I love this name and we plan to use it for our first son but does it really need so many letters!? What wrong with just Emett.

@MapleCreekBride:  Maybe some people hate short names but like the sound of them? haha it’s so peculiar.

Peter.  I used to know [sorta ..it was a guy my dad used to work with] a Peter when I was younger & he always seemed like a super creep, even to the very young me!  Not sure why it’s stuck with me 20 years later still ..plus, just in general I associate it with sexual innuendos haha.
