I am really getting a kick out of photographers, I never knew that this proffession was so full of people with such inflated egos. It’s kinda sad in a way too knowing I’ll be paying one of these loons! Here is latest email! I know you guys enjoy this too.
Him talking about another photographer:
I’ve been at the forefront of photojournalism in this country for a long time and have never come across
. Did you spot the spelling mistake in the headline of his blog – that gave me a chuckle!
Wow way to stay professional…I have too much to say about this one.
Can I be bold and ask what you intend to do in terms of final product from the day i.e. which ones of the options from my price list fits you best? It’s just that at present I have three other couples interested in the same date.
I think it is needless to say that I’ll not be bidding for his services. If that’s what I wanted I would have gone on ebay.
Anyhow – I’m pretty sure I’m coming across as a bit of an arse by now…
Well at least he’s got one thing right. Why would I want an arse hanging around with me on my wedding day?
Big GAG on this one.

@Atalanta:There are a few of us nice ones out here. 😉 He shouldn’t have been deciding which couple to book based on what their final purchase would be!

Wow, those are really some apalling things to say coming from someone who wants to be hired for something (or maybe he doesn’t really care to be hired, seeing as he apparently has 3 other couples vying for his lovely professionalism). To answer your question though, yes, there are great photographers out there who aren’t pretentious asses! I guess you just have to weed out the nasty ones to get there. We got lucky with our photog, she’s the only one we met with in person and she’s fantastic!

My cousin volunteered to do my photography (she’s primarily a children’s photographer), and even made a point to book another wedding before mine so she didn’t mess mine up.

UGH. So many things wrong with that email! You should leave him a bad review so other brides don’t even waste their time ‘courting’ him.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when professionals bad-mouth their competitors. One of the venues we looked at did this and as soon as those words came out of her mouth, I stopped listening. My feeling is, if you have to degrade the work of others to make the sale, then you aren’t good enough to stand alone based on what YOU bring to the table.
Also, the bidding thing?? Wow, I can’t believe he had the nerve to come out and say that! Classless.
On a good note…. our photographers (husband & wife team) are super laid back, talented, and easy to talk to. Keep looking, there are bad vendors in every aspect of wedding planning, but good ones too!

OMG i had the SAME thing. I went into this out of the way Photography studio and asked for prices. Well the photographer there lost it on me and told me to look at other photographers and come back and say “I want YOU and I want to give you ALL my money because you really are the best” … WTF is with the EGO?!? you take effin pictures, so do a ton of others.. with an attitude like that i am amazed they are still in business!! Its all good, BREATHE and try again. there HAS to be someone out there that is somewhere close to earth….

@cyrgycyrg:
Yeah what’s up with all these photogs that think people are just going to throw money at them and beg that they work for them?
I’m hiring you!
There are far too many of them that feel this way.

Ah! What jerks! CLEARLY, they don’t need your business. I promise there are some awesome ones out there. We haven’t booked yet, but are meeting with one next week who has just seemed amazing from Day 1 (even going so far as being willing to work with my aunt who is a semi-professional photographer as a second shooter when he’s never even met her). Keep looking, you’ll come across some great ones.
I’ve read so many good stories on here about how the photographer at a wedding made a bride’s day perfect. They’re out there! Sorry you’re going through this now though.

There are always going to be the douchebags that make us hardworking and non-pretentious photogs look bad by association. But trust me there are still plenty of nice photographers out there 🙂

At least they’re kinda making your photog search easier… you know they’re jerks BEFORE you go with them so it helps narrow it down & you know who to avoid. Not all photogs are like that! I think most are not, but the few “bad apples” ruin it for others who actually care & are helpful & nice. Seems like there are always jerks in every field, sadly :(.
