socalgirl1689 :  We did cake pops! They were a huge hit and not a single one was left by the end of the night! (The small cake in the middle was made by my mom but was unable to be served to guests, it was more for show! We ate it the next day at a BBQ for out of town guests!)

Desert in any form is amazing! We didn’t have a cake at all because our menu options came with a desert and then we chose to have a desert bar later int he reception. Things we had: ice cream sundae, s’mores brownies, lemon tarts, and creme brulee

We’re doing a cutting cake and cupcakes. But in proper pittsburgh tradition, there will be a giant ass cookie table as well

We did a 6″ cake for cutting/saving with donuts.

We love the donuts from this one place near us, and it was like $200-$300 less than getting a cake. That being said, the cake we did cut/save is soooo good.

We also had an amazing dessert with our meal so this was more like a late night station/snack more than an actual dessert.

I absolutely LOVE cake, so I’m always a little sad when there is no cake at a wedding.

I really hate it when there is cake only for the newlyweds or the wedding party, with a second-tier desert for the guests like ice cream, cobbler, or brownies.

We did a few bundt cakes, and then had a sweets table with lots of goodies made by my grandmother! I’m not big on cake and neither is my husband, so neither one of us really wanted to spend money on a big, ornate cake.

minnesotabride17 :  that’s what we did too. That was the display “cake,” then we bought a sheet cake from a local Amish bakery (married in PA), which everyone raved about. It cost $60, plus the $20 I spent on almonds to make the kransekake.

No cake.  We are having two kind of dessert, one for women, one for men. Each one will be paired with it’s own wine.  People likes to share food here, so we are pretty sure every one will end up trying  everything. And probably drunk if they aren’t already.cool

A cake comes with my wedding package otherwise I’d do something else like pies or cheesecakes.

Love the stories on couples having a sheet cake to supplement – huge $$$ saver!  I, too, love cake at a wedding!!  I mean….c’mon…..it is a wedding!

I am not even having a wedding, so no need for that cake. 🙂  I have been to one wedding which they had sushi cake, no kidding, it’s creative and delish!

socalgirl1689 :  We didn’t do a wedding cake because its extremely expensive and we don’t love cake that much. So my husband got pumpkin doughnuts from a local farm and we broke that in half and fed it to each other instead of doing a cake cutting ceremony. Then we had gourmet ice cream served after and it was AWESOME and guests loved it!

We’re doing pies! I’ve found some super cute vintage cast iron pie racks, and I’m working on locating a local baker that will do a bunch of different flavours (so far, I know we have to have lemon meringue, strawberry-rhubarb, apple, blueberry and pecan, but that’s just to start!).

When I told the lady at my venue, she actually said “oh thank goodness” because apparently they throw out a TON of cake from weddings, because it takes so long to cut and people are dancing and they don’t like the flavour, or etc…
