We are doing Voodoo Donuts. Neither Fiance or I are crazy about cake, donuts are cheaper, and they’ll make bride and groom donuts!

I do wedding videography and I’d say, in my area, 80% of weddings provide an alternative dessert of some kind. Only 20% serve just wedding cake at the table.

ohnoitslindsay :  I agree and that has really changed!  Back in 1994 EVERYONE had cake.  I wonder if is a budget thing?  Cakes can get $$$ pretty quickly.  Alternatives are much less money.

Love all the ideas!

My FH is a police officer, so we are doing a doughnut cake. (There will be enough doughnuts for all guests). We are also having sheet wedding cakes being made so anyone wanting cake can have some yummy cake! Our favors are cookies!

I’ll be honest, I almost never eat the dessert at a wedding, BUT I love the visual of a big, beautiful cake and will probably have that as well as other desserts at my wedding. At my first wedding, we had a small 3-tier cake with fresh flowers and strawberries.

socalgirl1689 :  Yes and we had a smaller wedding cake supplemented by a sheet cake.  Cake prices are insane!!  I love sugar but really…..

We’re planning on going with tradition, but Fiance hates cake. We might end up doing a combination of cake and pie so everyone will be happy!

We had a cheesewheel cake that turned into a cheese buffet after the food was served! Got so many compliments on the idea!

I’m planning on doing a small cake with cupcakes, cookies and kettle corn for people to choose from at the dessert table.

I’m gluten free and dairy free. So this way will have one cupcake flavor I can have, one regular flavor, cookies for guests and I can enjoy the popcorn as well!

Dairy free frosting apparently can’t stack into a layered cake so this is what we will be doing.

We had Pie. Four different flavours of mini pies for guests (sour cherry, pumpkin cheese cake, apple salted caramel &a Mexican chocolate) and then a two tired pie for us to “cut” as well.

went over amazingly well and was delicious!

we are doing a traditional 3 tier cake and a half sheet grooms cake, my family loves cake so im not to worried about waste or anything, and the price was not as expensive as i thought it would be, some benifits to living in a small town i guess

Cake was a non-negotiable for us – we had both a bride’s cake and groom’s cake. Cake tasting was one of the highlights of our wedding planning process! Yum.

I would be so disappointed to go to a wedding without cake.  We went to one a few years ago where there wasn’t enough cake to go around and guests were grumbling…maybe it’s just where we live but cake comes first and any other sweets are favors or late-night snacks, not dessert.
