No i think they will be fine! Is it possible to do a mock up on the table to see what it would look like?

Honestly… I think 9″ x 9″ is a really wide base for such a small table.  We did lantern centerpieces as well and I will tell you they were really gorgeous.. you will love the look and feel they give… but I would suggest finding a different lantern.  We used the below Malta lanterns from Pottery Barn.  They are on backorder now but will be available in June.  I got the medium size and the base is 7″ x 7″ and our tables fit 8-10 people (I think they were 60″ rounds) and they were a perfect fit.  You have to leave a lot of space for all the place settings, table numbers, baskets of bread, etc. that all take up room.

I think it will be ok – depending on how much stuff you’ll have on the table.  If you think about it – from the midpoint – that leaves you with 24 inches from the middle of the table to the edge.  The lantern would take up about 5 inches of that – leaving you with 19 for space and plates, stemware, etc.  The thing that’s concerning me is actually the height of it.  That seems like it would hit at eye level and block the view of such an intimate table.

CUtting a circle might be a good idea, do the centerpiece and everything you will have on the table…see if its overcrowded or not. HOnestly I dont think it will be….i think it will look awsome!

if you are using plate chargers, they take up lots of room

so make sure you include everything when you do it to scale

My only concern is that they are too tall.  Generally centerpieces should be under 12″ tall so that people can see and talk to each other across the table.  It seems like they might be in the way.

Yes that is way too tall. Centerpieces should be no taller than 8″ max, otherwise they block views across the table and hinder conversations.

It depends on the size of your table. Ours we have 10 people sitting at each, and our center pieces are 4 foot high! Other table that will have kids sitting have much lower center pieces but they are fatter. Compare to your table size and the other elements on the table as well. Also take into consideration looking across the tables too. You want your guests to be able to see each other.
