I am trying to DIY a monogram “S” cake topper but combining this platform that you see in the first picture with a letter initial but painting it a silver with a few rhinestones like the second picture has. What do you think? Could I get everything at Michaels :an initial, a platform made of wood and paint both of them with acrylic paint silver paint and add rhinestones here and there to it? Do I hot glue the letter onto the platform? Not sure about brooch and feather and how that would look on an “S”

Michaels has the letters (some pre-painted white or black) in various sized and had the wood plaques too (in round, square, etc.). For an application like this, hot glue would work fine to hold to the base
In the second picture, it looks like the rhinestones are set into the wood, but gluing them on the surface would look good too. They have the flatback crystals and rhinestones (lots to choose from).
Yes, I practically live at Michaels. I could probably do their inventory for them!

Thanks. I went today and just found the last cake topper pic with the rhinestones already in it at Hobby Lobby and it was half off so it was $5 which is cheaper than getting all the supplies plus paint plus brushes. I am wondering if I should put a little mound of hydrangeas on top of cake and then put the monogram in the middle or just leave the monogram plain and simple by itself.
pics idea with S and a bit of hydragea at base
or just plain on top of cake
