(Closed) Are Ushers Necessary?

Ushers aren’t *necessary* for any size wedding. As long as you block off where you don’t want people to sit to reserve for family, you’ll be fine. The exception might be if you were having a Jewish wedding with a lot of non-Jewish guests, because IIRC, they have the bride and groom’s sides switched. We’re having ushers for the sake of tradition and making the older folks happy. And it let us include the FH’s brothers without putting them in a position of any actual responsibility. (They are idiots, majorly, and I say that knowing both my FH and his family would wholeheartedly agree.)

We had two ushers for our 80-person wedding (the groomsmen did not usher). Our only expense in doing so was to get them boutonnieres. We did not ask them to rent or wear tuxedos, only a nice dark suit. So while you definitely do not have to have them, if you do it does not have to be expensive.
