You don’t want to be in any way uncomfortable. But at the same time if your gown in strapless it has to be super tight in order to stay up.

1/8 of an inch is soooo small and won’t make that much difference if it is that tight.  Maybe wear it around the house to try to stretch it and get the fabric to relax a bit?  The fabric will naturally loosen once body heat and, i know this sounds gross, sweat are factored into the mix.

I don’t think that any good seamstress should be telling someone that a dress should be so tight that it’s uncomfortable. It sounds like she just didn’t want to do any more work on it.

I agree that 1/8 of an inch probably won’t make a difference. If it’s that uncomfortable, you should have it let out at least 1/2 an inch if not more.

Have it taken out a little bit if it’s uncomfortable.  It’ll be worth it.

I dont think any dress should be that tight to the point that its uncomfortable, You dont want to pass out. She probably just took it in too much and doesnt want to do anymore work on it. Ask her to let it out a bit because you are going to have to eat, dance, and sit in that dress. so if you arent comfortable its gonna be a long day for you

A word of warning .. I thought mine was too tight and when I had it taken out a little it ended up sliding down on the sides and the boning actually bruised me on my ribs … which was much more painful than when the dress was tighter.  So keep that in mind if your dress has boning along the sides.  When you’re sweating from dancing your dress tends to fall and “give” a little.

@lkswim2: The same thing happened to me with my prom dress. I thought it was too tight and had it let out a bit, but by the time I was half way through the day it kept sliding down. Needless to say I spent my afternoon tugging on the sides and I got some pretty nice welts from it too 🙁 Personally I’d rather have it a little snug then have to pull it up all the time.
