I’ve used these before. They are great! There is another brand called ‘Instead.’ I believe they carry them at Target and Walgreens.  People shouldn’t be squeamish about them.  It is a great alternative.

I really want to try this out, but I’m still unsure…

My biggest fear is probably insertion! Is it as awkward & uncomfortable as I imagine? I’m only weirded out about how to get this cup in! lol

What funny timing!  I’d been meaning to get one for probably a year and finally did it.  I ordered mine online though amazon and got it really quickly with no problems.  This week was my first time using it.  And I agree, it’s pretty awesome.  I don’t have it down perfect yet, I still had some leaks but that was probably user error.  I definitely recommend it!

@Recessionista – You fold the cup so it’s not much bigger than a heavy tampon.  It’s not awkward at all.  Actually, I think I probably have more difficulty getting a tampon positioned just right than I do with this thing.

I tried using one about a year ago and never got used to it. Now I have learned from the previous post that tampons contain bleach so I am giving my diva cup another try.

It is really easy to use and I loved not having an leakage at night when I used it. Cleaning was easy as well, and I boiled mine every time I was done with my period to keep it nice and clean.

Dumb question for any diva cup users. Is the end supposed to stick out of you at all or should the entire thing be inside. I know, gross, but I currently let the end stick out a bit, but the positioning doesn’t feel right.

I just used the diva cup for the first time this month and I will never go back! I had a tiiiiny amount of leakage the first time I put it in, but I found some really helpful videos on youtube that showed different folding techniques and I was leak free for the rest of my cycle!

I’ve tried the “Instead” version as well. It works pretty well. I preferred using it when I knew I would be home most of the day. Not gonna lie, it can get messy, especially the first few times you try it.

I still prefer tampons.

I thought about it, but I know you have to empty it, and that it can get messy.. I imagine when you aren’t in the comfort of your own home, it can be uncomfortable to empty.. how often do you have to dump it out?

I’ve definitely gone to the store, looked at the box for, like, an hour, and then went home empty-handed…I’m too chicken!  maybe one day…

@Ella: Most girls say they only have to dump it every 12 hours unless they have really heavy periods.

I’ve been a “diva” for almost two years now.  The first cycle I used it (like EVERY time that whole week) I felt like I was doing it wrong and was really frustrated- even had to wear a pad (eeek!) for back-up. But when I tried it the second month, it was like magic.  It just worked, and I haven’t had a single problem since. I empty it in the morning and evening, in the privacy of my own home lol, and it works out just fine.  I will NEVER go back to tampons.  They seriously dry up your insides because they absorb what they are supposed to (and a whole lot of “good” moisture too). So if anyone is having trouble, stick with it! I don’t know many people who properly inserted a tampon the very first time either.  Two years ago I was still lurking on livejournal and there was a whole community devoted to the divacup.  It contained a lot of helpful hints (and some pretty gross/funny stories) so search at your own risk.

Ella- I actually think that taking out the diva cup and emptying it is less messy/gross than taking out a tampon.

Your seriously take it out and dump the contents in the toilet. Really simple and not gross. You also only have to do it 1-2 times a day.
