On another post I saw a bee mention that she couldn’t pair certain items of clothing together because there was a fashion rule against it. And it got me thinking about all the fashion rules out there and which ones have held up and which ones are outdated. I know my mom always tries to match her purse to her shoes and I never do. She also always asks me if I’m going to wear pantyhose/nylons with formal dress? (that would also be a big no)
So vote in the poll and comment with your take on which fashion rules you follow and which you break. (add any i’ve missed)
Some common rules I break;
I mix navy and black and brown and black and I love how it looks.
I mix metals, (white gold with rose gold and yellow gold)
I wear white after labor day
I don’t wear pantyhose with forma;/coctail dress
I wear opaque tights with peeptoe shoes
I don’t match my shoes to my bag
I mix patterns
FASHION RULES I FOLLOW
I don’t mix denim.
I don’t wear one color head to toe.
I keep my undergarments under my clothes, (no bra straps or panty lines)

@Meowkers: I’m pretty much the same as you, other than wearing tights with peep toe shoes, I just don’t like the look. I think most of those rules are pretty outdated, fashion is all about showing your personality and taking risks. I say break whatever rules you want as long as you own your look!

I don’t pay much attension to fashion, period. But I do break the following:
- I wear white after labor day
- I don’t wear pantyhose with formal / cocktail dresses
- I don’t match my shoes to my bag

I try not to dress so that I get glances on the street (not in a good way), but like you there are some I do break. I wear white after Labor Day, and just recently I wore tights with a cocktail dress to an event because it was freaking cold and I think I would’ve looked dumb NOT wearing them!

I don’t care much for fashion, so I end up breaking a lot of the rules. On the visible undergarments one though, in my defense, my bra starps are at least an inch wide and it’s impossible to keep them fully under all of my tank tops in the summer. When I’m hot I’m going to wear my tank tops anyway, because it’s a matter of comfort.

I break all of these rules except for underwear showing (I’m not that brave) and wearing pantyhose because I never wear pantyhose with anything, ever. I only have 1 purse, so it’s impossible for me to match my shoes. Plus I leave the house without makeup all the time, so I guess I’m an all around fashion disaster lol.

I also mix metals, usually when I wear bangles.
I wear white anytime I feel like wearing white.
I also get matchy. If I am wearing a pink shirt I have to pair it with some kind of pink accessory. I also make it a point to match my hair band if I’m wearing one.
I still wear headbands even though they’re “out”.
Sparkles are my best friend… it’s rare that I don’t wear a sparkle pair of converse during the day (I have at least 4 pairs of them).
I’m sure there’s more but that’s all I can think of now. ^_^

I don’t follow any rules, I just do what I like the look of in that moment. I think I’ve broken every single of the rules above…most of them are fairly dumb, tbh

When I’m camping or hiking, sometimes I let my bra straps show. It’s always just a tiny bit, though. My tanks tend to have wider straps.
I dislike hosiery, so I never wear it with long formal dresses.

I *love* navy and black!
Also a big fan of mixing metals (I wear a silver ring on my right hand and an 18k gold ring on my left every day) and sparkle at all times. Also rarely match my bag and shoes b/c I only carry one bag at a time haha.

I only wear tights with open-toed shoes if they’re the footless kind – otherwise it’s too slippery!

On top of what I voted on, I am a fat girl wearing horizontal stripes today!! Eeeeeeek

@Meowkers: I do some of the same things but I know now in fashion they DO mix denim So I do that bc I like the look (Sometimes).
I also wont wear pantyhose with open-toed shoes either. My grandmother does though. I hate pantyhose bc oF Catholic school my whole life.

Matching your shoes to your purse has actually become a big no no in the fashion world so that’s ok 😉
I think black and brown look gorgeous together.
I definitely mix my metals.
I don’t know if this is a “rule” or not, but I wear a lot of soft, feminine clothing with more statement pieces of jewelry. Usually in a bold color.

I break them all!! The only one I was able to vote for was open toe shoes with tights. Although I can see me breaking that one too!
Watch What Not to Wear & you’ll break a lot of these! They basically say anything goes.
