I vote Green, actually. I have friends who vote Dem, Republican, and Libertarian. All decent folks. And if you actually asked me what I’d call my political bent, rather than who I vote for, it wouldn’t be “Green,” it would be “Very Left-Libertarian-Progressive.”

Reality is not actually made up of many black-or-white dualities. There are actually very few. Political leaning is just one example of where the apparent duality has been artificially created. I think opinions are very much worth discussing. I love to discuss politics. I don’t care for the same-old same-old red talking points vs. blue talking points, but especially for nuanced topics (e.g., what is the exact relationship between nuclear power and nuclear weapons… would it even be theoretically possible to untangle them?)

“Opinions are like assholes” seems like a statement from a very closed mind. What is so hard to tolerate about opinions other than one’s own? How would anyone’s worldview ever expand if we were all sheltered from everyone else’s opinions? I read non-fiction voaraciously, for work and for leisure… I encounter opinions all day long, every day. Many of which I don’t end up agreeing with. They were still worth reading. I couldn’t imagine life cut off from the perspectives of other humans. To me it would be like being stuck in sensory deprivation. I don’t discuss things with people so that I can just hear my own echo.
