You absolutely must pay for the flowers, period.  In the US it is customary for the bridesmaids to pay for their dresses and shoes but you should be a good friend and keep their costs very reasonable.  No $400 dress and $150 shoes.  If possible, allow them to wear shoes they already own.  Personally I feel that jewelry for the day is the responsibility of the bride but many brides make the jewelry the bridesmaids’ gift (a practice that I do not like at all).  If you require a certain hairdo or certain makeup, you pay.  If hotel accomodations are required, generally the bridesmaids bear that cost although plenty of brides choose to cover that.  You should also get them a nice, not-wedding-related gift on top of that

David’s Bridal was overpriced? My bridesmaids both got their dresses from David’s Bridal and each dress was $120.

I paid for their leis and their flowers. they didn’t buy shoes, nor did I even pay to get my hair done.

I am paying for flowers (as part of the general floral/decor budget).  The girls purchased their dresses at DB ($99 each) and can wear whatever shoes they want as long as they are a nude color.  They can wear whatever jewelry they like (I’m not buying since they all have distinct styles and one has an allergy…I already have enough to stress about).  They are doing their own hair and one of my BMs will be doing their eye makeup.

@mrsedwardslpn:  I guess that depends on what you were looking for. the two dresses that my girls bought for $120 each, one was chiffon and the other cotton sateen in Apple Red. I suspect they’ve hiked up the prices because it’s coming into Spring and wedding season. I was shopping for dresses in December.

My Bridesmaid or Best Man are purchasing their dresses from Alfred Angelo, the dresses cost $135. I am letting them pick their own shoes, with guidelines (nude color, no flip flops, etc.). I am paying for their hair since I want them to get it done. I am not requiring them to have their make up professionally done; I am having mine done with an make up artist, so I gave them her price and let them know they are more than welcome to use her if they’d like. I am gifting them their jewelry as well as something else. and yes I am paying for their flowers, I think this is a must.

David’s Bridal usually has pretty cheap bridesmaids dresses compared to other brands. I’d check out their website to see the full selection.

As previous posters said, flowers are your responsibility 100%. Everything else is more of a grey area.

Yeah…you MUST pay for the flowers.  If you are requiring them to wear certain jewelry I would buy that.  I would pay for their hair and makeup if you require it.  Although I know of weddings where the bridesmaids were required to pay for their own hair…so it wouldn’t throw me off completely if someone asked me to do this.

Normally they buy their own dresses and sometimes shoes (if the dress isn’t super expensive, I’ve had to buy shoes in the past).  Or they can wear shoes they already own.  They would also pay for their own hotel accomodations normally.

My dresses were $150 I believe and I have a 20% off coupon..so they’re $130
