His last name is ugly but I am taking it. Both becuase I love him and want his name to be mine and because I want every connection with my real father severed. I can’t cut out half of my dna but Ican get rid of his name. I’ve never thought about keeping mine.

I kept my name…after 32 years I was too attached to change it!

    Plus it made sense professionally.

I have been surprised by how many people assumed I would change my name.  Even our DJ was confused as to how he would introduce us at the grand march, you think he would have come across this before!

I will! I already have a hyphenated name, with one being my ‘legal’ name, one being my ‘social’ name, and a third last name that covers my insurance (thanks a lot seperated parents), so I am so excited to finally only have one last name.

When I dovorced I kept my married name becuase I have two children, now with hopes of being engaged soon (lol)  I had thought of hyphenating, but the BF doesn’t like the idea of still including my ex’s name..

I will take his name, but only because my children are not bothered by this. 🙂

I’m going to hyphenate it.  Fiance doesn’t care either way, but I’ve decided that my maiden name is unique and I am 99.9999% sure that there is not another person on this earth with my name.  I don’t want to lose that, especially because his name is quite common.

@Ms.BlueEyesDC: Agreed!  I feel the same way.

I have always made it clear that I would be keeping my last name, however our children can have his last name. For some people that is very strange and they seem to judge, I don’t see it as a big deal.

My mom was adopted and I do not know my father so I am the last of my “line” so to speak and I want to keep it going, besides I really like my last name.

My man seems to accept it and understands the complications behind my decision.

I’m still undecided. My maiden name is super rare and I’m in no hurry to cut my ties to it. I don’t want to make it a second middle name because it will get lost and I want to keep my middle name as it’s my grandmother’s. I’ve been considering two last names without the hypen, but both of our last names are long. M***** A*** W******* E********, which is what my First Middle Last1 Last2 would end up being, seems extravagant. 🙁

Yes I will be taking his name..  99% of the time people pronounce my last name wrong, and assume I am Japanese (even though its English).  Its okay but I never really liked it and am looking forward to the change. I like FI’s last name, I find it easier even though often people misspell his by missing a letter.  We both have uncommon last names..

In my family, my last name dies with me. There is nobody else to keep it going. that makes me sad.

also, it’s not a very common name, and I really like it. so I’m keeping it, no hyphenation either!
