it looks terrible on me.  I’m really pale with dark hair so it should work.  But it doesn’t.

Depends.  Only when my lips and area around them is clear and healthy looking.  I find lipstick looks horrible when my lips are chapped, and red doesn’t work well with other blemishes.

I think there’s a red out there for every skin tone. I love red and other rich/deep lip colours. The first time I tried it out it was a bit scary but every time I wear a bold lip colour I get loads of compliments from women. My partner much prefers the natural look, lol. I would recommend the colour Icon by Hourglass – super staying power and the perfect blue toned-red.

I love it! I say rock it girl! I make sure I use a  lip moisturizer prior to applying the lipstick, then I use a bit of lip liner to keep it from running everywhere, put the lipstick on my top and bottom then blot my lips to fill in. Any messy edges I clean up with a little brush and some concealer. If you really want it to last use the lip liner pencil to fill in your lips a bit before using the lip stick itself.

To start definitely try a matte lipstick.

Well, the poll kind of asks two different questions…I LOVE red lips, and I’m totally comfortable rocking them.  But I also think it’s more of a fun/fancy thing, so I don’t wear red lipstick often. I save it for special occasions or when I want to make a statement.  I’d never wear it to work or anything.  I also will play down the eyes when I do a red lip- one of my favorite night out looks is a classic cat-eye with a red lip.

I actually wore a red lip for my wedding- it was one of YSL glossy stains so it wasn’t the boldest red out there (which was perfect, I didn’t want it to be too bold or or matte), but the color certainly popped!

I absolutely love red lipstick! I’m very lucky to be fair with neutral undertones, so I can wear pretty much any shade of red. Most of my favorites have unfortunately been discontinued (Clinique Vintage Red and Red Hot, NARS Rouge D’Enfer), but a few I like that are still available are MAC So Chaud (a very bright orange-red), MAC Lady Danger (a slightly less orange coral-red) and NARS Charlotte (a deep oxblood red).

I love wearing red lipstick! It took me forever to find the right color shade though (very pale but olive tone skin with dark hair). I don’t use it often because I don’t really bother with anything on my lips but chapstick usually, but I love putting on when I’m going out for a party or dinner. My main trick for keeping it looking good is to 1) exfoliate/moisturize really well a day or two ahead of time, and 2) to use a red lipliner as your base. I found that red lipstick comes off easily and that looks horrible so I will usually line my lips very heavily with the red liner and smudge it around my entire lip with my finger so I’ve pretty much got a red lip already with the liner and the lipstick itself is just the cherry on top….

I love red lipstick and wear it often, even at work!  Not sure when red became “omg, you are wearing red lipstick, it is sooo much makeup!”  It used to be the one of only a few options for lip colours so women wore it all the time.

My current favourite reds are Hourglass icon (which is a blue based red liquid lipstick) and Urban Decay Mrs Mia Wallace which is a little deeper, almost brown toned neutral red.

I would love to try it, because I think it can look sooooo damn gorgeous, but I’m horrible at lip makeup. I can’t do lipstick right. I haven’t mastered lip liner, lol. Maybe I’ll try a bold color once I get more comfortable with lip drawing!

I hate lipstick and I normally wear gloss.

I’m a little concerned about the “red lipstick makes someone look like they are trying too hard” option. Why judge someone for what lipstick color she wants to wear? I don’t understand.

I will wear red lip gloss and I love the way it looks on me…however, I usually save red lip gloss for going out. I like make up which looks very natural.

When we renew our vows, I will be wearing red lipstick for the first time in many years. I’m sure I will feel like a clown but I want to look different for our special day.

bluesparkles:  Use a nude lipliner to line your lips first.  Then, your lipstick won’t bleed.  After you’ve applied it, take your finger and put it in your mouth, purse your lips around it, then pull it out.  This removes any lipstick that is too far inside your lips so it doesn’t get on your teeth.

I wish.  Red lipstick makes me look like a doll, and not in a good way.

Plus I have a small mouth so I generally stick to a pink/nude gloss or lipstick.

MissCoupon:  I’m super pale with big lips and I sometimes wear red lipstick. I used to be super intimidated because of the reasons you listed but I just gave in one day and now I’m a little more confident about it. I find that I feel more comfortable in the darker, blue-based reds because they aren’t as “in your face”. Try Rimmel’s Kate Moss lipstick in 107. It’s a good one for first timers because it’s cheap 😉
