I don’t think they will be like omg truitjen is such an idiot… but they could think you are over doing it a little. My family is from a lot of small town areas in the midwest and I live in Arizona now, so I run into the overdoing it situation sometimes too.

Simple minded probably wasn’t the best word to use when saying it to him, I think I would get upset too, but I get what you are trying to say. I feel like small-ish town people just aren’t as materialistic as they are in the rest of the country so they might not get your taste for “big city, high fashion” as you said.

Overall, it’s your (and your FI’s) day, do what suits you best!

We are not doing a fancy wedding what so ever but i wouldnt use plastic tablecloths… My cousin did them for her wedding and said she regreted it because she couldnt get the lines to go away and said it “cheapened the look of the wedding” HER WORDS NOT MINE… I want cloth table cloths and i dont see why that would be a omg she is so stupid thing? But remember this isnt FMIL’s wedding if you have the budget for the wedding you want then do it!!!

I went to my cousin’s wedding in East Texas, and we were the “fanciest” people there. We felt really out of place. I had on a pretty linen dress and SO wore a vest and tie. The groom wore jeans.

A lot of people had on jeans and t-shirts. No, I don’t think you’re being unreasonable for wanting your wedding to be a little dressier.

@truitjen: lol! You are going to be totally fine, I imagined you planning some huge swanky event!!

I am a totally worrier too and I am at 6 months, trainwreck coming soon! lol My suggestion for you on the guestbook, ribbon wand, candy bar thing is have your bridesmaids (if you’re having them) or a few friends start off the guestbook so it turns out correctly (people will totally follow examples!) same with the ribbon wands, maybe put a cute note with them so they get it, and candy bar… heeelllooooo it’s free candy! haha people will be all over it. Everything will be great I’m sure!

Just do your wedding your way! I think people sometimes give us too much input on our plans.
