My job requires that I’m FB friends with my supervisor. (We’re both admins on our organization’s FB page, and for her to add me as an admin, we have to be friends.) However, she is ALWAYS posting the weirdest stuff on there. It really makes me respect her less, and I just have trouble keeping a straight face around her now. Also, I don’t feel comfortable posting hardly anything personal because I know she’ll see it.
Are you FB friends with your boss? What about your coworkers?

Boss, yes because he’s my dad. haha
Coworkers, negative. I see them enough during the day, I don’t want to see them on my news feed.

How the heck can they require that?! I’m only friends with a girl at my work who heads become one of my close friends. We just happened to meet at work. I would NEVER add another person from my work.

I am FB friends with my boss, and it’s fine. We have a close working relationship, and he doesn’t post much and neither do i.
It does make me think twice about what I post, but that’s not always a bad thing!! I don’t have any drunken pictures up there or anything, so nothing to worry about.

Not “heads”, “happened”! The auto correct on the mobile site is crazy!

@QueenOfSerendip: She doesn’t need to have full access to everything you post, right?
Hide her from your newsfeed, don’t go to her profile page and alter your privacy settings for what she can see about you.

@QueenOfSerendip: I have a strict no FB friends with coworkers policy. I just can’t do it.
You can “downgrade” her to an acquaintance and change your post settings to friends except acquaintances to keep her from seeing your posts.

@luvmesumhim: Awesome! I definitely had no idea I could do this! Thanks. 🙂

I’m not facebook friends with anyone in my department, but I am friends with a few people who I went to college with, who work at the same hospital I do (in different departments). That’s enough for me!!
Haha…I don’t even want to be linkedin friends with people I work with. (I know that’s the whole point, it just makes me uncomfortable!) If I became close friends with the people I work with, I’d definitely accept a request from them…but most of my coworkers are 20-40 years older than me, so even though we have a lot of fun at work and great working relationships, it’d be a little weird to be facebook friends.

I’m not FB friends with anyone I work with. We are connected on LinkedIn though. How can work require you to be FB friends? What if you didn’t have a FB page?
No and I’m not interested. You can make it so she doesn’t see most of the things you post and you can hide her so you don’t see anything she post. It’s easy. I have nosey family members and I put them down as “acquaintances” and when I got to post something, I have it automatically set so that “all friends but acquaintances” can see it.

I’m friends with some co-workers, not my boss. There is a significant age gap between my bosses and I, I’m actually the youngest in my department by at least 4 years.

No. my former bosses yes.

@QueenOfSerendip: i am facebook friends with a few select coworkers that i hang out with outside of work and trust. i have a personal rule of no facebook friending for coworkers for at least 6 months after i start a new job, and then only if i have hung out extensively outside of work, we confide in each other, etc. basically more of a friend than coworker situation. i’d never be fb friends with my boss, even though we’re on cordial terms.

I’m an admin on my company’s fb page. My boss however is not. Just this week he asked me to make his gf an admin so that she can help out with the page. I happily added her as a friend and set her on a limited profile so she can only see limited posts of mine. He then asked me to make him an admin… I pretty much told him to his face that that’s never going to happen since I’d have to add him as a friend and I’d prefer not to do that. I then asked his gf to add him. We actually had a huge laugh about it and they both told me that they totallly understand.
