Are you getting a flu shot in your first trimester?

I got a flu shot the first cycle we started trying, and got pregnant on the second cycle. Before the shot, I told my OB that we were trying, and she gave me the preservative free shot that does not include mercury, which is typically used on expectant mothers.

For me, the dangers of the flu and possible complications while pregnant seemed a higher risk than any possible flu shot complications. I’ve never had trouble from the shot before, and was fine this time around.

I got mine in the second trimester, simple becasue that’s when the flu season matched up. I would have absolutely gotten one in my first trimeter had the timings been different.

Got my flu shot around 5 weeks pregnant… Darling Husband actually ended up getting the flu so I hope that somewhat contributed to keeping me well. Oddly enough, this is my first year getting a flu shot (I don’t normally get sick) but I trust my PCP and she said I should get one.

I didn’t get one, as I have terrible terrible reactions and the doctors agreed it just wasn’t worth risking. Last time I had the flu shot I was in the hospital for 4 days with a 103 temp, so I opt out now.

My GP said he wasn’t comfortable giving it to me as he didn’t feel there was enough info available for the 1st trimester. So have an appt for Jan when I’m in the 2nd.

I got it and was given the perservative-free one, but everything I read and was told by my OB was that it wasn’t necessary to have that one.

I read the research about the slight rise in miscarriages after the flu shot and concluded that the data wasn’t anywhere near conclusive enough to have me avoid it. ACOG still recommends it, as did my doctor, so I decided I’d side with them on this one.

Yup, I got my flu shot at my 8 week OB appointment last week. All seems to be going well so far.

TBH I had no idea there was controversy over it. Everything I read told me that the flu is especially dangerous for pregnant women, and that you should get the shot as soon as flu season comes around. I didn’t think it was worth the risk, so I got the shot.

Already did, when I was about 6 weeks pregnant. They gave me the preservative free one.

The overwhelming advice I received both IRL and online was that I should get it.

I have never taken a flu shot, so when I was pregnant with my son I decided not to take one either. Now I’m pregnant again and will still not be getting the shot. That is just my personal choice.

I’m not sure what my OB’s opinion is for the first trimester. I know fever can be a problem in the first trimester so it wouldn’t surprise me if some avoided it in the first trimester.  I got a flu shot with both pregnancies but I was well into the 2nd trimester with my first and in the 3rd trimester with my second because that is when they happened to fall on flu season.

I didn’t, but I did get one at about 20 weeks (a little over a month ago). Luckily, flu season and my second trimester matched up. I’m not sure what I would do if I was currently in my 1st.

Yes. I did with my first pregnancy and then early in my second trimester with my second (because that was the timing with flu season). No issues and I was so glad I did because some of my coworkers got the flu and it was brutal. Maybe they’ll get the vaccine this year…
