Sounds like your friend is green with envy. Ignore her and her statements.

We got married on our 9 year anniversary and I would not have wanted it any other way.

@minipenguin:  Isn’t that lucky? ๐Ÿ™‚ May sounds like a pretty good month for an anniversary- it’s warmer out and I’d think that people would be more likely to expect you to plan a small vacation at that time than in the fall. Ours is in October so I’m not sure how it would work out logistically if I manage to still be in school at that point- but I’m sure we’ll manage. The next time after graduation that our date is on a weekend is 2021, and that’s even a Friday- not exactly ideal. ๐Ÿ™‚

As close as possible. Our Dating Anniversary is July 10, 2005, and our Wedding Anniversary will be July 12, 2014. I really wanted to as JUly 10 would have felt on a Saturday in 2010, but that didn’t happen.  The next time it will happen will be in 2021, and that will never happen in a million years!

I think it’s wonderful! My fiance’ and I are getting married on our dating anniversary….it really didn’t matter to him at first when we got married; but once I explained to him that our lives could be very different had we not started dating, he saw the signifigance of the date. Luckily it lands on a Saturday in 2014!! I think it’s such a great thing to do! Ignore your bff, and be happy! What a wonderful time you’ll share….and she’ll either fall in line or complain. But don’t let it bring your down! Go on girl!!!

Childish? That’s such a weird thing to say! Mine will be close but unfortunately, our dating anniversary will be Easter and I didn’t exactly want to have an Easter themed wedding.

I will be getting married on our 6 year dating anniversary. I think it is really nice to have a date that means something to you. It seemed easier to me then just picking a date haha.

Ours is two days before christmas… so absolutely not even an option. However FI’s cousin is getting married later this year and they picked their dating anniversary, even though it’s a friday

Childish?  That’s strange to think that.  I think if you can do it, more power to you.

Ours is on the 2nd anniversary of our first date.  I would have done the day we met but that is a weekday this year (the Tuesday before our wedding).  Our first date just happened to fall on a Saturday this year so I think it was meant to be that date.  I never wanted a summer wedding (way too hot) so I would have chosen late April or September regardless.  So why NOT?

I like being able to celebrate during the same week every year now!

Fiance and I wanted to get married on our dating anniversary (really, it was one day off because the real one is on a Sunday). However, that would mean  getting married the weekend before my cousin who, when they get married, will have been planning for 2 years. So, I decided to give us a three week cushion. I have loved planning at the same time as my cousin-we have been able to vent, and she was great about not thinking we were “stealing her thunder.” The date turned out for the best anyway, because my Maid/Matron of Honor is in two weddings this summer; the other bride chose the date I originally wanted haha. That would have been tough.

It is going to be a busy summer, because I have another cousin getting married three weeks before the first cousin I mentioned Smile

I am so happy we can finally change our anniversary! We got together a week after my birthday so I have always had to choose which I wanted to celebrate more.

Now it is in a whole different month. So glad

Agreed, who cares what her opinion on your date is?

We are getting married ~2 months before our dating anniversary. We wanted to get married when people could actually come (summer because of the students/teachers), and we started dating in October. Then again, we have no idea what day our anniversary is, so there is also that.
