i think most people do NOT have their rehearsal dinner at the venue.  I’ve only been to them in restuarants and hotels.  I am having mine in the hotel our guests will be staying at.

@Kamazing: The cost really depends on the venue.

We are having ours at a local restaurant in a private room

We are most likely going to have  a BBQ at F-IL’s home.  Our wedding party is small, only 6 + 2 ushers.  Just seems easier that way, and will most likely be more fun as well.

Ours will be at a local restaurant, not at the reception site.  The rehearsal itself will be at the church, just like the ceremony.

We aren’t having our Rehearsal Dinner in the same venue as our reception and ceremony but it is a rooftop loft that the same managment company runs and so we are getting it for free and just have to pay for catering.  I think it normally rents for $750.

@Kamazing: We are having our Rehearsal Dinner at the venue, but it’s because we are having a huge one. If I were you, I’d just make a reservation at a restaurant. It’ll be cheaper, and the guests can just order what they want.

We’re staying at a guest house that is located on the property and having the rehearsal dinner there.

I think in your situation a restaurant would be the easiest, most cost effective option. But I’m not sure what your venue charges for something like that. You could call to inquire and see if it is affordable.

We considered the option, but ultimately decided against having the rehearsal dinner at our venue because we wanted the rehearsal dinner to have a more laid back vibe. Our venue is very elegant, and just didn’t fit the more relaxed feel that we were looking for. So our rehearsal dinner is at a casual waterfront restaurant where we can sit out on the deck, enjoy the views, and have some cheap beer and frozen margaritas. 🙂

I’ve never been to a rehearsal dinner at the wedding venue.  Ours was in the private room of a restaurant.

I’ve never been to a Rehearsal Dinner held at the venue either. Our venue also doesn’t provide food service so we would have had to pay our venue to use the space and also coordinate/pay a separate caterer to bring in food. It ended up just being too expensive and too much extra stress so we had ours at a private room in a restaurant.

Our rehearsal dinner is at the same hotel, different venue- our wedding/reception is at one of the stand alone restaurants on property and my FI’s parents picked the rehearsal dinner to be by the pool catered by the other restaurant on property.

Everyone going to the rehearsal dinner is staying at the hotel, so it was really a convenience thing I think.
