Hi Bee’s –
My Fiance and I are hosting our first holiday party together this year. We’re having a couple’s night with all the couple’s that we met at our pre-marital counseling about 12 couples. We all just really clicked with one another and I didn’t want to not stay in touch.
We started to put up our Christmas tree (not finished) sorry…not sorry..this week. I’m creating a bunting flag that says “Kiss me under the mistletoe” with a cute mistletoe Fiance bought me.
I printed the free letters on cardstock from this site:http://www.shanty-2-chic.com/2012/10/free-printable-whole-alphabet-banner.html
We’re also going to decorate the staircase with garland. We are going to see if our parents will let us have some of their lights so we can put some outside.
We are going to play some board games- Apples to Apples, Taboo, etc.
I’m creating a mock photo booth, we bought a cheap kit for 5 dollars at target.
For food we are making home made pizza’s and wings, cucumber and tomatoe salad, and probably Christmas cookies for dessert.
What are you doing for your party?

I’m doing a holiday favorite things party with the theme “Eat, Drink, Be Merry” (red, white, green). I used my cricut to cut out gift tags and put eat, drink, be merry on them which I will hang up near the food table. I have coasters and themed plates and napkins that say “eat, drink, be merry”.
I am doing appetizers (shrimp, spinach and artichoke dip, deviled eggs, bruschetta, asstd. cheese in the shape of a christmas tree) and then a light dinner (soup, salad, bread) and then dessert (white chocolate cranberry bars, twizzlers “twiz the season”, cupcakes that when frosted look like tangled christmas lights, and mini gingerbread cheesecakes)
For drinks I am doing a punch with champagne and gingerbread martinis- soo good!!
It should be fun, everyone brings 5 of their favorite item and then we share them, draw names and everyone goes home with 5 new items!

@jnov12: ohhh that sounds like so much fun!! I may be stealing your champagne and punch idea. What kind of punch do you use?

No. We usually don’t do holidays parties…. I host Thanksgiving and then we usually go to my friend’s mom’s house for Christmas eve.

Some day I would LOVE to have a holiday party!! I work a lot of weekends so finding a night that works is pretty much impossible.
I love your ideas so far, one thing I would reccomend is to do as much of the food prep as you can in advance. When I host people I normally try to make things I can freeze and just take out and bake or cook the day of. I’m usually a lot busier than I think I will be the day of the party, so this saves me some stress.
@jnov12: Sounds like a lot of fun, I love the 5 things idea!

As far as recipes go, I’ve made reindeer cookies before, and a crockpot full of cocktail meatballs is always a hit!

Darling Husband and I have a huge (40-50 person) party every year to celebrate the holidays. We load up the house with appetizers, desserts, and booze and have a night of merriment with all of our friends. We do it as an open house so everyone is always mingling around and coming and going!

We’re having an Ugly Christmas Sweater party, I consider that a holiday party! We’re having it the 21st and are inviting 35ish people. We’ve had this type of party in the past, and it was so much fun! I typically stress myself out over making food and making sure everything is perfect, I’m going to try really hard to NOT do that this year. We’re just getting pizza and chips with some dips.. and calling it a night! We’re having it start later, so hopefully people won’t be expecting a bunch of food.. I’ve even made a “faux”tobooth.. I used wrapping paper and made a backdrop then made several drops for people to use.. we’ll hang it in a spare bedroom.. people will just use their cell phones to take the pictures, I think it’ll be a blast!!
Said props which have since had sticks glued to them so you can hold them

@ginmar: thanks for the tip! My Fiance is the Chef in our home and he is SUPER obessive about the food. He wants everything to be perfect, I’m going to try my hardest to get him to prep everything so all he has to do is pop it in the oven.

@X0JLYNN03: Love it! I’m not sure where i’m going to put our “photobooth” yet, all our bedrooms are on the second floor.

If you have a blank wall in a dining room or basement, that would work. Our spare bedroom is on the first floor, and I made it the exact size to fit over 2 windows that are side by side in that room. I used an obnoxious wrapping paper too, just to make it more festive 🙂

Love hearing everyones ideas for the holidays! It’s the best time of the year 🙂
We are having a Christmas Party in our new home this year, so excited! I already told Darling Husband that us wearing Santa Hats is mandatory.
We’re actually starting our decorating this Sunday, can’t wait! We have our tree, bought prelit garland for the stairs, have our stockings, lots of little decorations to put around the house (thanks to my wonderful Bridal Party making holiday baskets for me at my shower!) and some outdoor decorations as well.
As of now I’ve got the following menu planned:
A Veggie Platter (in the shape of a christmas wreath)
Christmas Tree Cheese Platter
Christmas Tree Pitas
Homemade Rice Balls
Another Hot Appetizer, prob wings
Chicekn Parm or Marsala
Santa Hat Margaritas (basically a margarita with pomergranite juice)
Can’t wait! 🙂

@Meant2Bee: Actually I just mix champagne and those frozen juice concentrates in the small containers they sell in the frozen section at the grocery store. Last time I made it, I used raspberry (the choices were slim), but it turned out great and everyone liked it so we are doing it again!
