Just got off the phone with my mother, who was very upset over the latest decision I’ve made for my wedding…
no cake.
Fiance and I don’t like cake that much, and we love pie. So, we are having a variety of pies instead.
My mother told me that cake is the reason people go to the reception. To which I laughed! Oh mom…
She is determined to be upset about every untraditional choice I make!
So… would you care if there was no cake at a wedding?

The cake is always my least favorite part.
You should definitely add “for the dancing.” Besides the ceremony and celebrating with the couple, that’s my absolute FAVORITE part of weddings!

I think pie instead of cake is a great idea! I honestly prefer pie to cake, especially wedding cake since i think fondant is disgusting

Nah, I come for the food and dancing. Sometimes I don’t even get a piece of cake while I’m there.

I love a good cake, but I also love a good pie! I’ve been to one wedding with an all-pie reception. It was yum.

I think’s a bit of everything (minus alcohol), the way I see it a guest can expect some things (like cake) but should not be there just for it.. but to each their own.
Traditionally here in Mexico the cake’s not served at the reception, but the day after at a second party so I never expect cake at weddings 🙂

ALL OF THE THINGS 🙂 Cake or no cake, I think everyone will have a good time! People also love pie 😉

Good friends of ours had pie instead of cake at their reception, and it was fantastic. It was also extremely touching: the couple’s grandmas had each made their specialty pie that was a family favorite, so the options were “bumbleberry” (I think it was a mix of blueberry/blackberry/raspberry) and something-chocolate-chip. They were delicious.
Go for it! And I say this as a great lover of cake (but it has to be good cake, with buttercream frosting – none of this whipped frosting or fondant nonsense … if that’s the way it’s going, I’ll take pie for sure!)

I wouldn’t care if there no cake – I can’t even remember the last time I went to the wedding and actually ate the cake.

I loooooooooooooove cake, but that is still not the reason I go to a wedding! I personally am not the biggest pie fan, but dessert isn’t even that important, as long as I’m able to eat something during the reception, I would be fine. So cake is awesome, but not that important!
