I definitely am an early tester. I start at 8dpo with cheapies. My rationale: if I get a BFN on 8 or 9 dpo it’s no big deal – I know that’s super early and the odds of getting a BFP are low anyway at that point, so it kind of desensitizes me. A BFN on 10 or 11dpo is a bit more upsetting but by that point I’ve gotten used to the stark white beast and have gradually started accepting my fate in a way, lol. Whereas a BFN when AF is due would have a much more devastating impact! I feel like if I waited until then to test the moment of taking the test would be so much more intense and suspenseful with my hopes up so much higher…it would be harder to take, in a way, even though the ultimate result is still the same.

We did get lucky and happened to conceive this cycle. I started breaking out the FRERs on 10 and 11dpo and was getting BFNs. I had no symptoms and was sure I was out. I even looked ahead to December, figured out when the next fertile window was and when our due date would be if we conceived in Dec and started wrapping my head around all of it lol. Then suddenly a squinter on 12dpo and an undeniable BFP by 13dpo! Today at 15dpo AF is officially late and my FRER is looking pretty strong. So I guess I could have saved myself some angst if I’d waited until AF…but at the same time I don’t think so – I don’t have it in me to not POAS early and often. I think I’d be a nervous wreck either way.

Too impatient, so I test early, esp the cycles where our BD timing was spot on. If BD wasnt timed well, I’m more likely to wait for AF to show up.

krystalite :  Thank you! I think basically the goal is to come up with whatever strategy/mental gymnastics you can to make yourself the least emotional/anxious through the TWW. I am far from convinced that my manic testing is a good strategy, but it was (is, let’s be real) like a compulsion for me – I literally couldn’t not test.

The month I got my BFP I got a BFN on 8DPO, a weird maybe faulty test on 10DPO and then a bright BFP on 11DPO.

So, as you can see, I wasn’t deterred.

tiffanybruiser :  I’m 12 weeks this week! I knew from day 1 it was a girl. Darling Husband originally said boy but then started reading wives tales online and changed his vote to girl along the way.

krystalite :  I’m with you!! Early on in my TTC journey (essentially months 1 & 2 of TTC my first) I tested on CD 10 and 12, and then waited for AF. As the months ticked on, those negatives were SUPER hard to see, so I stopped testing altogether, and waited for AF. The month I got pregnant (16 months later), we did IUI and even though I had implantation cramping, I still didn’t test. I waited for my beta on 14DPO. My RE’s office called at 1pm while I was at work, and I waited until I got off and was home around 4:30pm before I listened. I have the patience of a saint if I’m expecting bad news. So I’m definitely like you!!!

This is my first month TTC #2 (currently 5DPO) and I’m pretty sure I’m going to test on 14DPO, maybe 13DPO. If it’s negative, I’ll get it out of my system and never test again!
