krystalite :  I hope you’re wrong and this month is it! That’s a bummer about next month. Maybe you can still get in a few days before O and it’ll give you a shot?? If we’re not lucky this month (need to remind myself that it’d be a damn near miracle if we were), then we’ll be back at the RE next cycle for testing before starting treatment again, so I keep trying to remind myself that hopefully this journey won’t be as long as the last.

    How old is your LO?

I started testing early. I’m a glutton for punishment and it’s easier for me to start testing early and brace myself for it than to have a huge gut punch when AF comes.

krystalite :  nooooo! Stay away AF! My Dear Daughter will be one on January 17, so 10.5 months now. We’ve started on the early side since she took a long time to conceive and we also don’t want our kids too far apart.

ruby26 :  Threadjack, sorry.  Are you still breastfeeding (if you did at all), and how does that affect your TTC?  My sister was telling me that if you have at least a 4-6 break in nursing on the DAY of ovulation, you will ovulate and it won’t be suppressed by breastfeeding.  I’m not sure I buy that though…. she’s not very sciencey 😉  Curious how others approach this!

I’m thinking about 4062852 steps ahead, but we hope to have a pretty short interval between kids cause we’re both older (starting TTC next month).

First month TTC I didn’t test, just waited for AF, because I’d come off the Pill and wasn’t sure how long my cycle would be. Second month I tested early and got three BFNs before AF showed up. I drove myself absolutely crazy trying to squint at the tests and googling “BFN 14dpo could I still be pregnant”. I made myself so anxious over it that from now on I have sworn not to test until I think AF is late. We’ll see how long that lasts!

I opted to wait for af rather then test. When ttc for #1 i was painful seeing that stark white test. After 5 months, I stopped testing and waited for af. It ended up taking us 2 years and numerous rounds of treatment (IUI and IVF). We found out we were pregnant with a phone call.

For #2, we tried for 6 months before doing an FET. Since I wasn’t expecting a miracle, I just waited for af. With the FET, I ended up testing a little earlier than my bloodiest because I started getting a reaction to the meds and I needed to know if I could continue. I took a test and that was the first positive I ever saw. My husband was in shock too and wanted to wait for beta numbers to confirm. He didn’t believe the test.

I was adamant I didn’t want a BFN so I waited to test until I was sure I would either see only 1 line or 2 lines. I just wanted to know definitely what it was. I tested 2 days before AF was due and saw 2 beautiful lines

krystalite :  oh sorry no, I didn’t lol – I meant that when I tested , I wanted it to be a definite yes or no. I didn’t want to test early and then be like hhmmm it’s a negative but maybe in a few days it will be positive …. and keep testing and testing … that seemed rough. My cycles are weird so my period was due later than the normal 2 weeks so I tested just before AF was due knowing that if I was pregnant (or not pregnant) it would be a definite answer. And I was lucky that it was a positive. I hope that makes sense?? Xx

I think I’ll revise my answer in light of going through this saga I’m currently in (likely chemical pregnancy…will find out tomorrow for sure). Next time I think I’ll wait to test until I see that my temp is still high on 12dpo. That was the giveaway this time…usually it starts dropping significantly by 12dpo when AF is on the way. I didn’t get a bfp until 12dpo anyway so I wonder if that’s just how my body works….or if the late bfp was related to the likely chemical ? blargh
