We gave the DJ a Spotify playlist we like to refrence and a short list of hard noes. I trust him. It’s his job.

We’re giving our band a few songs that we’d love to hear, but otherwise just very general advice– for example, we’re telling them that we aren’t big fans of country music, but we love listening to 90s and 80s jams. They said they prefer this to a hand-picked list, because that way they can match the music to the crowd’s vibe in order to make it a better party. Could you do something similar and just give “I like this style, I don’t like this band” type suggestions? That way, you aren’t limiting the DJ too much, but you can still tell them what you typically like/don’t like.

I am doing the same thing.

I chose 99% of the songs, DH chimed in a few titles. My DJ demanded a full playlist. He said if we didn’t give him enough songs, he would just start replaying what we did give him. He also refused guest requests. So needless to say, I handed over his entire playlist. Unfortunately this tidbit came up after the invites went out so I couldn’t add a spot for song requests on the RSVP card.
*Our DJ was the only DJ allowed in the venue (owners brother), so we felt a bit screwed over.

There are currently 135 songs on my playlist for the DJ. Fiance has about 150 on his list so far. We’re happy to let the DJ pick when to play each song but its going to be music we choose. Like you, we want what we want. 😆 My mom loves this one particular Kool Moe Dee song Wild Wild West. Highly doubt that would be played otherwise. Not into pop much and 90% of whats on the radio is garbage to us so nope.

We had the band perform whatever covers they wanted.
Just during dinner, which my DH was particular about…he gave the DJ a playlist of 80’s love songs.
