I was at a renaissance fair years ago and my ex friend and I ran into one of her friends. I mentioned something, I don’t remember what it was, and my ex friends friend said “oh, don’t worry, it will get better when the baby comes”

I ignored it but my ex friend pointed at me and giggled and laughed saying “omg she thinks you’re pregnant! That’s so funny!” I ignored that too and pretended I didn’t hear it. So five minutes later, she did it again to make sure I, And the group of people around us, heard that someone assumed I was pregnant.

This wasn’t even a blip on the radar of what ended the friendship though.

tillymac :  Nope, rude AF! Just because YOU aren’t offended by people asking YOU doesn’t mean it isn’t offensive.

I also carry my extra weight in my belly, and have been asked MULTIPLE times in my life if I was pregnant. I simply can’t wrap my head around anyone thinking this is ok. So what if you are married, what if you are trying and haven’t conceived yet or are having issues with it? What if you want to be pregnant but can’t for a variety of health reasons? I just CAN’T with this shit.

I DEFINITELY think this type of thing being so common and accepted, is due to most people still believing having kids is what women are put on earth to do, and the only reason we should gain weight, so there is no problem asking us about that.

This really hits a nerve for me, obviously.

bluecutie00 :  Unless they said something along the lines of ‘ You look pregnant, are you expecting?” it likely has nothing to do with what your body looks like

People just assume everyone who gets married goes on to do the next thing- kids! It is super common to be hounded post wedding about being pregnant. I know I certainly was basically for 2 years straight until i started lying and said we were waiting 5 years LOL
