So, seeing as we are the 20 somethings, we’re the youngest of the Bee’s brides.
I figured I’d ask because it will be interesting to see where other 20 somethings fall amongst their group of friends. So answer the poll, then comment to share your age, how old you will be when you get married, the age of your SO, where you fell amongst your friends in terms of engagement/marriage dates, and the reaction among your friends (or family) on the news of your engagement!
As for me, I’m 21 years old, but will be 22 when I get married. My FH will be 25. I am the first engaged, and unless someone dashes in with a shotgun wedding, I’ll be the first married. As for my friends and family, only my absolute best friend and my immediate family know. My best friend was over the moon excited, but she totally saw it coming since we’ve been together for 6 and a half years. My family is also pretty excited, especially my mother. She has been planning my wedding to my SO longer to than I have, haha.
The reason it isn’t public yet because my FH doesn’t want it to get out until my ring arrives; he said he’ll feel shitty if people know we are engaged, but then don’t see a ring on my finger, haha. He worries he’ll end up being judged as cheap. What a silly guy, right? 😛 I do have a feeling that people I am not as close with will get a little judgy about my age once it finally goes public… We’ll see, though.

I was 24 when I got engaged and will be 26 when I get married. Of my close friend group I am the first for both, but if you extend it out to distant acquaintances I am the first to get engaged but not the first to get married. Some people got engaged/married all last year. My fiance is 35 and will pretty much be the last of his friends to get married.

I’m the first of my close friends to get engaged/married and I’m 26. Most of the people I’ve gone to school with aren’t yet married either…maybe 10%?

We’re late 20’s, I’ll be 27 when we marry and Fiance will have just turned 28.
So, we are most certainly the first out of FI’s friends (and there’s a lot of them!!) We are nowhere near the first amongst my friends who are all either married, married and divorced, married with kids (some 2), divorced with kids etc.

Out of my FRIENDS yes, I’ll be the first engaged & probably the first married though that’s 2 years away so someone could get married before I do. Out of my family, on my mom’s side, I’m the last in my generation of cousins & my siblings because I’m the baby of the family but on my dad’s side, I’ll be right in the middle

I’m 20, FH is 21. I’m the first of my immediate close friends to get engaged/married but a few people from our class of 60 graduates have gotten married and had kids.

I’m 22 and my fiance is 23 (we’re only about 6 months apart). I will still be 22 when we get married and I’m the first out of my friends to do so. Our families are very happy for us…we had been dating for 5 years, so they saw it coming.

i find this interesting to read, and wonder if there’s any correlation between the average age to get married and career field/geographic location etc.
i’m 25, and am the first of my close friends to get engaged/married. fiance is 29 and has one close married friend. in our field/social circle, my age is considered quite young, and his age probably average. i predict a few of my friends will get married within the next few years though.

@LostInWonderland: is was 19 when I got engaged, he was 21. we will be 21 and 23 when we get married next summer. I am not the first of my friends to get engaged but will be married first. My Fiance is the first off his friends to be engaged.

Out of my close friends I grew up with, yes. There’s one girl I was friendly with in school who got married right after graduation and started a family, and another girl who has a child.
Out of my current social circle, most people I’m friends with were both engaged and married earlier in life than I was. And most of them had children around my age, too.

Well Fiance and I fall into two categories.
In our cultural/family group we are amongst the last to get engaged and married.
Amongst our social group we are the first to do both.
Both groups are equally important to us, and both have opposite beliefs. Our cultural group wonders why we didn’t do it both younger and sooner (well for one we didn’t even know each other at the age our cultural group expects marriage – late teens. Secondly, we didn’t want to get married six months after meeting). We are happy to have met mid twenties and waited three years to get engaged (we will be married just after four years together).
Our social group wonders why we settled down in our mid-twenties, and why we don’t wait until our thirties to get married (some of our social group even wonder why we are bothering to get married at all).
