I haven’t really found the type of shapwear I’m looking for, so I’m thinking about throwing caution to the wind and just wearing my undies under my mermaid gown. Anyone else? Anyone do it and regret it?

@apple: i think i’ll definitely need something to smooth me out, but if it’s not comfy….. i may not wear it, i definitely don’t feel sexy if i can’t breathe lol!!! i may wear some spanx panties or something like that though…
I read the title of your post and thought “how can you not wear shapewear under a mermaid gown?” If you can get away with it, I say go for it! (I don’t have a mermaid gown.)
Just undies for me π No shapewear and no bra. I’ll probably have crinoline sewn in under the skirt though, to make it fuller.
Right now I’m planning on going sans-shapewear. I tried it on without any, and it seemed to work ok!
definitely spanx. anyone know if the kind of target work just as well?
@purple: i hated the spanx things from target, either i didn’t buy the right size or they were just uncomfortable, i really want to get the kind from the dept stores and see how i like those.
I bought my spanx from lane bryant and I wear it all day and it’s soo comfortable! I’ll probably wear something under my gown (it’s mermaid as well), I have spanx now, but after I lose weight and actually am able to FIT into my dress (it was a sample dress so I had to buy that size, but I should lose weight easily), I’ll see what I need for undergarments. But I def don’t need a bar with it, it’s tight enough up there already!
I’ll be wearing something to keep me snug! π …I’m losing weight too, but it’s always best to have something to smooth you out…unless u workout ALOT π I sure don’t! LOL Spanx for me for sure
Well I’m not wearing spanx (actually I don’t even really know what it is ) , I don’t work out at all, and I’m just eating my third cookie of the day which I keep sneaking off my boss’ desk…Maybe I should start thinking about a threadmill once in a while, lol. But I have my own mermaid dress worries being short and all so please don’t hate me! π
For me, it depends on if I ever start my LGN diet and work out regimen! If not, for sure!
I’m with JoJo – there’s no way I could NOT! My dress looks radically different with Spanx on.
@meliss: Spanx are basically like control top of hosiery… a stretchy girdle, if you will π
Possibly, although I don’t think I look too shabby. I did recently purchase some shapewear for the first time (Jockey brand) to wear under a new years eve party dress that was super clingy at the tummy and I have to say I was VERY impressed, that bad boy kept everything smooth and tight, getting it on and off was a pain though but, I will wear it again should the situation call for it. Btw, this item was really inexpensive and I got it from Kohls.
Purplerose: I read great reviews on target.com recently about their shapewear.
I definitely plan on wearing spanx under my trumpet gown! I also plan on hitting the gym to get rid of a little belly, haha. I’d also love to get some extra crinoline added to the bottom to flare it out a bit more.
I wore some spanx knockoff I bought at Kohls. The actually spanx never worked well for me because they were always too long – the would go above my boobs instead of staying below them. The knockoff from Kohls was great though!
