His parents are quite generous and have paid for my destination wedding dress (a complete surprise) my outfit for our ceremony here as well as all the expenses for the wedding ceremony we are having here before our destination wedding (it is a ceremony in his religion). Fiance and I will be paying for all of the destination wedding (besides my dress) and my parents have given us some money to help pay for some of it.

We reversed the typical wedding cost division due to our differing financial situations – FI’s parents are paying for the bulk of the wedding, while my parents are paying for the rehearsal dinner, flowers, invitations, and other small things. So far, so good.

@JuJuBeans: We were really blessed, hiss parents offered 15k to cover our venue and catering. I cried. It was very generous. I never in my dreams thought id have a fancy wedding, since I knew my parents couldn’t contribute. FIs parents are very sweet ppl. Then we had 10k between my Fiance and myself from last years taxs returns. So that is for the other details.

We didnt ask and they havent offered. I wish I would know either way though, it would make planning a little easier knowing the full budget I have to work with. I guess I just need to assume they arent giving anything and be pleasantly surprised if they do!

My ILs gave us some money as a gift afterwards. Very surprising! We are 36 and 34!

My fiance’s mom hasn’t offered anything and I don’t expect her to.
She does have some financial issues, being widowed and on partial disability and all, but she makes really poor financial decisions. Like, she complains about not being able to pay her bills but she owns an iPad.
It will be a shock if she offers to contribute anything, financially or otherwise. We’ve been engaged for 2 years and she’s had …. 2 conversations with me regarding the event???

Right now, I believe that FI’s parents have offered to pay for the rehersal dinner, the open bar at the reception, and our honeymoon. We’re pretty fortunate to have that help.
