When my husband told me how much they paid to rent their tux, I felt almost guilty about not having them buy a suit they could have at least gotten some use out of.

I’d show them a few price comparisons and then see what they think.

Mine bought his. He just has a best man and no other groomsmen, so his best man will wear the tux he bought for his own wedding over the summer. If he had more groosmen who all wanted to match, they probably all would have rented.

Neither!

We asked our guys to wear a suit they already owned (plain black, no stripes or textured fabric). Well, one of them didn’t, but he recently lost a bunch of weight and needed to buy a new suit for work anyway, so he didn’t mind buying one.

J bought a new suit, dark gray-brown with pin stripes, at JCPenney. The color sounds weird, but it looks awesome on him. Kind of depends on the light, sometimes it looks really dark brown, sometimes really dark gray.

We went with a traditional tux so we bought the FH’s as we have several events in the near future that he will wear it again, but we rented the GM’s.  We paid for the rentals ourselves as we did not want to put that burden on others.

I just want to chime in that my SO was recently in a wedding in a small town and had to rent his tux at $150. I was shocked how much a one day rental cost and vowed that when I get married, the guys would not rent. I think rental tuxes look rented usually, and I know the bride tried to get a reasonably priced rental.

definitely check out prices and compare. my hubs was able to buy a tux (that he cld use again) for only about $50 more than the rental was going to be. we just went to macy’s randomly and there was a big sale (as there always is at macys). with taxes and everything, it was just over $200.

renting is still easiest for the groomsmen i think. even my brother, who owns a tux, ended up renting because he didn’t want to travel with his nice tux and knew there was a men’s warehouse right next to our venue. while BMs expect to pay for dresses, i don’t think the men expect to have to buy their outfit, especially if you want matching purple vests or similar.

For those of you who bought suits, where did you buy from?

you couls also try to coordinate your guys to go shopping together – men’s warehouse and similar almost always are having a “buy 1, get 1 free” deal so perhaps they could pair up to get better deals. our tux rentals were $165 before taxes, fees etc.

Our men will be buying suits. Renting can cost just as much as buying and at least they’ll get to wear it again. I’m just not going to be very picky about the shade of suit. We’ll get matching ties and shirts instead.

Ours bought suits.  There was a buy one get one free at Menswearhouse and we picked 3 piece suits for everyone including our dads.  Everyone really liked them and almost none of them even had real suits so it was an opportunity to buy one!

We’re going to buy a suit for my Fiance. He’s due for a new suit and considering I get to spend a bunch of money on a dress I’m going to wear once… he gets a new suit. I’m not sure what’s been decided for the groomsman though. Maybe renting, maybe buying. But we’ve only got one person on each side for our wedding party. So the best man could wear a suit he’s already got since he doesn’t really have to match anyone.

All of our guys are renting suits.  None of us go to any fancy events or anything else that would require a suit, so it didn’t make any sense to pay extra even if it was only a little bit, to buy one.  The rented from Sam Meyers and their deal is if you rent 5 tuxes the grooms is free.  So My Fiance has 1 best man, 3 groomsmen and then there is the ring bearer and my brother who is the usher.  All of their suits will cost $109 after taxes and the ring bearer suite is $86 after taxes (but its an elaborate suit to match the grooms!)

All of our guys rented tuxes.  These guys don’t have a lot of opportunities to wear tuxes so buying them isn’t really helpful.  Plus, we wanted them to match and I wouldn’t want to force them to buy a tux that isn’t their style.

Our guys just wore tan pants, a white shirt, and tie, so they bought. If it were a suit and tux, I’d have them rent b/c I wouldn’t want them to spend too much on something that I was picking out for them.
