Hi bees. I’m planning on starting dress shopping within the next month or so. I’ve found some beautiful designs that I love, but many of them are strapless. When I started my search, I was of the mindset that I wanted a dress with sleeves, but I haven’t found one that’s in my budget that was more than just “okay.”
I’m a bit insecure about my arms and I fear that having nothing to cover them up will just draw attention to them. I was talking with a friend about this, and she said that sleeves (especially with illusion neckline or lace) will just draw attention to my arms, or it may look like I’m purposely *trying* to cover them up, which will give off the impression that I’m insecure about them.
Any thoughts on this? Are there any bees out there with arm insecurities that went strapless anyway?

I agree, some cap sleeve dresses draw more attention than a dress with no sleeves but it really depends on the fit/cut.
Honestly, go with the dress you feel the most comfortable in, other people’s opinions be damned!

Im one full of insecurities but one is the little pillow between the axila and your chest, I cant decide if ill buy my dream dress because of that :(.

I’d go shopping and try on both. I thought I wanted sleeves but hated them on me. I ended up loving strapless and my arms are flabbier than I’d like. Seeing and feeling in person helped.

I HATE my arms, they have a weird fat pudge that is IMPOSSIBLE to hide even with a sleeve.
That said, I chose a dress with off-the-shoulder straps that manages to do quite well at masking their severity. I say try it all on, and try not to concentrate on your arms. We all have our insecurities, and most people (I say this from experience) definitely don’t see what you see about your arms.

I hate my upper arms. I hate strapless even more. I think there are some types of sleeves that draw more attention to your arms, such as sheer. I am hoping to find a solid flutter sleeve.

Oh, I’m totally insecure about my arms. But luckily I’m getting married in October and it will be cold, so I’m wearing an off the shoulder cape for the ceremony and a pretty sweater for the reception. Totally psyched that not only do I not have to worry about my arms, I don’t have to worry about my back in case of a breakout.

storms : Just try both styles! You don’t have to narrow it down yet.
I am a little insecure about my arms. They aren’t bad, but they aren’t completely toned either. I had a cap sleeve and found that the little bit of fabric made my arms look proportionally smaller. But I tried full sleeves that I thought I’d love and I absolutely hated it on me.

I have the same issue. I’ve found that it really just depends on the dress. Some strapless dresses are just so flattering that I don’t feel I need any arm coverage. Some just need a little cap sleeve or lace top which are both easy to add afterward. Focus on the dress first and how it makes you feel!

I disagree that sleeves draw attention to your arms. I find that odd logic. It’s like saying shoes draw attention to your feet or a veil suggests you just want to cover up your hair. There’s a thread on here about bridal gowns with sleeves and every dress on it looks elegant because of the sleeves. Listen to your own inner voice. If you feel self conscious about your arms then sleeve em up! I doubt you’ll regret it.

I had sleeves. They’re so timeless! I’ve always loved them

I was a plus size bride (size 18/20) and I am super insecure about my arms and my back fat… but I fell head-over-heels for a strapless dress!
I’ll be honest, there are a couple wedding pictures that I cringe at because of my arms and back fat, but overall I don’t regret it. I got nothing but compliments on my dress all day and I don’t think anybody but me noticed or cared (and in my case, it was only after the fact haha)

I believe your wedding isn’t until 2020 right? I have the same issue with my back and my arms so I have been trying to work on those two problems at the gym. Since you still have time is toning them up a possibility?

I started off thinking I wanted sleeves, not because of any insecurity but just that I like the look. When I tried on a dress with sleeves it looked frumpy/matronly and I ended up sleeveless so who knows until you go to the shop!
