Have you ever had anything else waxed besides your nether regions? (Legs, eyebrows, etc.) If so, then you have an idea of what kind of pain threshold you have for it. Obviously, underarms are more sensitive (but the good news is they ARE less sensitive than your lady parts!), but if you can barely tolerate an eyebrow wax, you may want to shave your arms or get laser hair removal.

The other thing you have to keep in mind is you’d have to have it done a couple days before the wedding, so that your pits weren’t all red and raw-looking (and you should have it done at least once before, to check for a reaction — so you’d need at least two appointments, one 2-4 months before you wedding, and then one 1-3 days before).

Confession time: I work offshore for a month at a time, and I admit, while I am at work I do not shave. Anything. There’s no one to impress, and it takes less time/water in the shower. With that being said, I set up a waxing appointment every time I come home to wax full leg/underarm/bikini(or brazilian) and I walk in to my appointments all sorts of furry. But–I walk out of it wonderfully smooth and fresh and ready to wear shorts and tank-tops again. Never ever have the people waxing me ever made me feel uneasy about being so *gasp* hairy when I first come in (so if you’re worried about what they might think about your hairy pits, don’t, they are used to it, I promise).

I recommend getting your pits waxed. It definitely does provide a much cleaner/longer lasting look (as long as you don’t have a horrible reaction to it, but I don’t know of anyone who has had one).

Getting your pits waxed is so quick. It’s like *zip* and one side is done *zip* and the other side is done now, too. It probably will be a quick pain, but after it’s done it dulls down pretty soon afterward. Hope this has helped. ๐Ÿ™‚

i have been waxing my armpits myself (yes, i mean i wax myself, not have someone else do it!). it takes me less than 10 minutes and soooo much cheaper. i do it once a month.  also, for years too i have been getting (by someone else) my legs and brazillian wax…..as for what you said about the brazillian being horrible – i would recommend giving it a second chance.  i just recently moved. before i moved, i only ever had one lady do my brazillian. so i thought it was normal and fine. little did i know she was AMAZING at her job, because when i went to a salon in my new city, after about 7 years of getting brazillian waxes, i had the worst experience of my life!!! i knew if that had been my FIRST experience, i never would have done it again.

so ya, i am all for waxing and also trying out different people until find a “good” waxer

I voted No, but I don’t think it’s weird.  It sounds incredibly painful to me, that’s why I say no.

I voted no as well but I dont think its weird either…its just not for me. I really dont mind shaving every other day because it takes about 1/2 a second per armpit! In addition, I dont really see the point of doing it just for a couple pictures! Your armpits will not show up in that many photographs!

I’m thinking of trying this. Not just for the wedding, but as a regular grooming exercise. Unfortunately us darker women’s pits can get darker after shaving and not all clean and pristine in waxing.

Are you guys getting this done at spas? Or the local waxing/nail/hair salon?

I’m also thinking of trying this. I do my eyebrows myself, but I shave my armpits. I want them to look perfect on the big day. I want to do a trial run, though.

DEFINITELY do it – it’s amazing how much ‘cleaner’ it looks after waxing. No stubble, no ingrowns, nothing. Just smooooooth. I have actually had electrolysis done everywhere, including there, so don’t worry at all about the 5’oclock shadow anymore (hehe) but waxed my underarms for years before that. Plus you don’t need to grow it out tooo long before they can do it – just a quarter inch. They can do eyebrows, they can totally do underarms!

ETA: Definitely do a trial run! Then you’ll know how your skin will react.

This is kind of related, but I don’t have “pretty” underarms :(.  Does waxing help with dark spots and that sort of thing?  I would like to have nice photos on my big day where I’ve got my hands in the air, waving like i just don’t care!

I’ve done it – I love it.  It definitely hurts, so my recommendation to ensure it’s the best outcome is to do it more than once.  Grow them out (it’s not a huge deal), and try to get it done three times or more before your wedding if time permits, because you’ll get more exfoliation and more short hairs growing between them to get a good schedule going.

I’d also recommend exfoliating with a scrub between – we have a lot of dead skin there, and we put drying deodorant all over them, and it’ll be worth it.

I’m going to start getting on my schedule for that in January.  I’ve got dark hair and olive skin, and it’s very hard for me to get everything and not leave a dark spot under my arms so waxing is great.  It does hurt though – so take some advil before

I did it before my wedding – I don’t normally wax my underarms (normally just my bikini and upper lip) but I have dark hair and even after shaving my pits in the morning, there is dark stubble by the evening which was not acceptable to me for my wedding day.

Honestly, I didn’t think armpits hurt at all to wax (note – i don’t find any of my waxing, including brazilian, painful – but pits were even less “uncomfortable” than the others).  And I appreciated being clean and smooth and having no stuble for the wedding and honeymoon.
